Wisconsin Routs Penn State to Earn Place in Big Ten Championship (Rapid Reaction)

The play-in game for the Big Ten Championship was never really that close as the #16 Wisconsin Badgers routed #19 Penn State, 45-7, in front of a packed house at Camp Randall on Senior Night. The Badgers (10-2, 6-2) will now represent the Leaders Division against a surging Michigan State team who has won eight of their last nine.

QB Russell Wilson and RB Montee Ball proved to both be worthy of the all-mighty Heisman as both players either tied or broke NCAA records on Saturday afternoon.

Following the game, UW’s Head Coach Bret Bielema said “I think we can play with anyone in the country, regardless of conference or ranking.”

#15 Wisconsin Looks to Bounce Back Against Ohio State (Game Preview)

The #15 Wisconsin Badgers national title hopes may be dead, but their Big Ten title hopes are well and alive. Their route to the inaugural Big Ten Championship and a BCS bowl hits another potential barricade this weekend when they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.

At 4-3 and 1-2 in the conference, this Ohio State team is not your typical Buckeye team. In fact, this will be the first time since 1963 that the Badgers enter the game as the only ranked team.

Wisconsin and Michigan State Meet for Big Ten Supremacy (Game Preview)

ESPN College GameDay is heading to East Lansing to watch the Big Ten’s two best teams face off in prime-time. All eyes are on Heisman Hopeful Russell Wilson and how he reacts to a stifling Spartans defense. The Badgers have not fared well in East Lansing while dropping their last three at Spartan Stadium, including their only regular season loss in 2010.

Badgers Russell Wilson is So Much More Than a Heisman Candidate

Wisconsin Badgers QB Russell Wilson’s arrival in Madison has been nothing more than outstanding through the first seven weeks of the college football season. We’ve seen him throw, run and now catch touchdowns (he really can do it all) on a journey which could quite possibly lead to a Heisman Trophy.

But, the most shocking part of Wilson’s game is his ability to embrace any situation put in front of him. Russell is mature beyond the game of college football and acts as if the words “pressure” and “nerves” are foreign to him.

In an age where so many star athletes are all about their-selves or portrayed as so, Wilson is showing the nation how to be an exemplary student athlete.

Wisconsin Plays Trickery in 59-7 Win over Indiana (Rapid Reaction)

Homecoming turned out to be a sweet experience for the still-undefeated Wisconsin Badgers (6-0) as they steam-rolled the Indiana Hoosiers (1-6) in a 59-7 romp. It wasn’t quite 83 points, but a similar message was instilled with the blowout win.

Heisman front-runner and Stanford QB Andrew Luck should take notice when he sees the trick play Montee Ball and Russell Wilson completed in the second quarter of a game that was never very close.

How Many Points This Year? Indiana vs. #4 Wisconsin (Game Preview)

Barring the most miraculous upset of all-time, the Indiana Hoosiers (1-5) have no shot at winning at Camp Randall against the #4 Wisconsin Badgers (5-0). With the outcome basically decided, the only question left is how many points can the Badgers score or how many push-ups will Bucky have to do, how ever you want to look at it.

Last year, it was an astonishing 83 points (or 573 push-ups), the most-ever against an Indiana football team. With an even better offense led by Heisman Candidate Russell Wilson (@RussellManiaXVI) and a Hoosiers defense ranked close to last in the Big Ten (421.5 yards per game), the possibilities are really endless.

Packers, Badgers Undefeated, Brewers Dominating NLDS, Cheeseheads on Fire!

Last year, sports fans in America’s Dairyland probably thought things were as good as they could possibly get. But 2011 is looking a whole ‘nother level can be reached. You have the #5 Badgers at 5-0, the reigning Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers as one of the NFL’s two undefeated teams (the Detroit Lions are the other), and the Milwaukee Brewers about to eliminate the Arizona Diamondbacks in their NLDS series.

Sure, the Bucks are still a train wreck, but the NBA is on lockout, so we won’t really see that.

Yes, there’s something in the water right now; and the state is half-bordered by great lakes.

Aaron Rodgers and Packers Put Up College-Like Numbers Against the Broncos

With a 49-23 win over the Denver Broncos (1-3), the Green Bay Packers (4-0) join the Detroit Lions as the only other undefeated team in the NFL. Offensively, the Packers are unstoppable as they’ve averaged a ridiculous 37 points per game on their four game winning streak.

Aaron Rodgers has shown he’s the premiere quarterback in the NFL and a legitimate MVP contender with another near-perfect performance including six total touchdowns.

In many ways, the Packers are putting up college-like numbers, something the Wisconsin Badgers are doing on a regular basis in the very same state.

Wisconsin 48, Nebraska 17: Best in the Midwest Rapid Reaction

The atmosphere at Camp Randall was electric as 81,384 fans watched the #7 Wisconsin Badgers (5-0) spoil the #8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-1) first-ever Big Ten game by beating them fairly handily, 48-17.

With the win on national TV for everyone to see, the Badgers will be catapulted in to National Championship talk. After the game, Wisconsin Head Coach Bret Bielema stated “I hope the blackshirts enjoyed their trip to Madison.”

Battle for the Best in the Midwest; #8 Nebraska vs. #7 Wisconsin (Game Preview)

For the first time since 1962 (#3 Wisconsin vs. #5 Minnesota), two top-ten teams will face-off at Camp Randall Stadium. The highly anticipated game between the #7 Wisconsin Badgers (4-0) and #8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-0) will be under the lights as the prime-time game on ABC with the help of ESPN College GameDay.

The battle for the Best in the Midwest contains more story lines than As The World Turns, and just might have as many followers as the popular soap opera. Nebraska fans are on a mission to scoop up as many tickets as they can to watch their favorite team in their Big Ten debut while the Badgers fans try to embrace a team who just might have a shot at a national title.

South Dakota, Not Your Typical FCS Foe for #6/#7 Wisconsin (Game Preview)

For the sixth straight season the #6/#7 Wisconsin Badgers (3-0) will face off with a college football team from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Last season’s FCS foe, Austin Peay, proved to be a walk-in-the-park as the Badgers thrashed the Governors in a 70-3 victory.

This time around, the Badgers welcome in the South Dakota Coyotes (2-1) for one last tune-up before the HUGE conference opener against Nebraska. Albeit a shared FCS designation, this South Dakota team is no Austin Peay and should prove a slightly tougher test for this year’s team.

Wisconsin Badgers are the Best Team in the Midwest By Far

There’s only one team you can call elite right now in the Big Ten, and it’s not the traditional powers- the Ohio State Buckeyes (things will get worse before they get better) or Michigan Wolverines (decent start, but they always start fast, only to fade later in recent years). It’s not the two conference teams beyond the fringes of Big 10 country either-  Nebraska Cornhuskers (defense looks terrible right now) and Penn State Nittany Lions (big time issues at quarterback, plenty of other places).

And the best team in the Midwest is certainly not Notre Dame (you can commence laughing now).

The only program that could compete for a national title this season is in Madison, Wisconsin.
