New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers: franchise twins

aaron rodgersbrady

In 1997, the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots came together for a Super Bowl in New Orleans. In 2007, the Pack finished a couple plays short of joining the NE Pats in the NFL title game once again. This season, a Packers-Patriots finale could very well happen; and it’s becoming a trendy pick to actually forecast this scenario.

Ravens’ Terrell Suggs mocks Patriots with expletives, insults

new-england-patriots

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs was anything but a gracious winner as his team defeated the New England Patriots to advance to the Super Bowl. Suggs looked like a jackass with these postgame comments: “These are the most arrogant pricks in the world, starting with [coach Bill] Belichick on down. Tell them to have fun at the Pro Bowl. Arrogant fuckers.”

Oh wait, there’s more

New England Patriots: most interesting team in 2012 NFL Draft?

asante_samuel

Doesn’t it seem like the New England Patriots go out of their way EVERY season to trade down and acquire more picks? Every year, they’re a fun team to watch on draft day, because they always seem to end up with more picks than anyone else. In 2012, even more so, because they have four picks in the first two rounds.

And even though they were just one Wes Welker drop, or perhaps one inexplicable Tom Brady interception, away from winning the whole thing, they still have a ton of needs (as losing to the worst world champion in sports history taught us). First and foremost are DB, pass rushing in the front seven, depth at OT and OG, and maybe another running back.

Asante Samuel coming back to the Patriots?

asante_samuel

If Deion Branch and Josh McDaniels can come back into the fold, there’s no reason Asante Samuel can’t do the same. This year’s Wes Welker franchise tag situation is similar to how it played out when the New England Patriots slapped the tag on Branch and Samuel in the past. If Welker, wants to hold out, and leave- fine.

He’ll soon see the grass was greener where he was. Cornerback Asante Samuel needs to as well. Like the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, the Eagles are pretty desperate to sell

And consider this from The Victory Formation:

New England Patriots 2012 draft preview: breaking it down

Patriots officially franchise tag Wes Welker today

wes-welker-anna-burns

The New England Patriots are expected to place the franchise tag on wide receiver Wes Welker today.

The one-year tag is worth $9.5 million to the NFL’s leading receiver, and give the Pats more flexibility to work out a long-term deal with the wideout before the 2012 season. Franchise-tagging Welker would keep him from becoming an unrestricted free agent next month.

You do recall the Butterfingers publicity stunt in Boston right after the Super Bowl? Which made Welker the comedic foil? Well, at worst Welker is getting 9.5 million reasons to forget about it.

Tom Brady No Longer Toils in Relative Obscurity; Tosses TD Pass Record

tom-brady

Tom Brady is a two-time league MVP and winner of three Super Bowls. He threw for 5,235 yards during the season, second in NFL history to Drew Brees’ 5,476 (also this season). He has a ridiculously hot supermodel wife Gisele who doubles as a global environmental ambassador (she just got back from a mission trip to Africa). Yet it seemed like the media completely ignored him this week.

Brees overshadowed the fact that Brady also broke Dan Marino’s passing record. And that’s understandable.

What’s not understandable is how the entire nation became so transfixed by Tebow’s play, and his polarizing personality that they almost forgot Brady existed.

He reminded them with authority Saturday night.

Patriots (Not so) Mercifully End TEBOW MANIA!

patriots domination

Our long national nightmare of media over-exposure is now over! For whatever reason, The Denver Tebows just don’t match-up well with the New England Patriots, getting their azzes handed to them yet again- 45-10 this time. The first meeting in Denver went 41-23 N.E.

With all of America talking about Tim Tebow, the team with the most American of mascots gave Tebow and the Broncos their dismissal for the 2011 NFL season. This 45-10 “game” was to Jesus’ starting QB and Denver what the battle of Yorktown was to King George III and his Redcoats- the decisive final defeat.

Patriots Rookie Marcus Cannon Beats Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Returns to Football

There’s something very extraordinary about New England Patriots offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, who practiced Tuesday for the first time this season.

Cannon, a fifth-round pick out of TCU, found out he had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (strains of which are some of the deadliest cancers out there) just days before the NFL Draft last April. He was considered a second-round prospect prior to the news of his illness. So the situation caused his draft stock to drop a few rounds, and for him to lose out on some money.

I know the feeling of having something like that derail your life right when you’re trying to establish it. I battled and defeated Hodgkin’s disease (a very similar form of lymphoma) twice between the age of 22 and 25; close to Cannon’s age.

New England Patriots Find New Tailback in Stevan Ridley?

How much longer are the New England Patriots going to go with the Law Firm and Woodhead approach at tailback? Don’t get me wrong, it’s working for them, both BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead are serviceable to solid, but I wonder if they’ll ever bring back a feature back mentality.

The last bulk carrier was Corey Dillon and that was over three years ago. Many draftniks thought they were going to take Trent Richardson’s predecessor in Alabama- Mark Ingram, but it didn’t happen. Instead Ingram went to the Miami Dolphins.

Tom Brady Throws for Patriots, MNF Passing Record: New England 38, Miami 24

This is why we get so unnaturally excited about football isn’t it? A new Monday Night Football and New England Patriots franchise record for passing yards  and Tom Brady goes 32-48 for 517! 4 TDs 1 INT, 121.6 passer rating.

And there’s still another game left to be played tonight!

-I freely admit that I vastly prefer college football to the NFL, but it’s hard to make that argument as the NFL becomes such a pass happy league and shapes it’s product to be more passer friendly. It is indeed “white collar football.” And white collar football is by far the best brand of football.

New England Patriots Look Kinda Bad in 34-10 Loss to Detroit Lions

patriots female fans

Again, it’s preseason football and therefore scoreboards about as accurate and meaningful as compliments a stripper gives you, but losing 34-10 to the Detroit Lions wasn’t very promising for the New England Patriots because well, their starters got beaten kinda badly by Motown’s starters.

Chad Ochocinco did not have a good game. He dropped a pass, and had zero catches while being thrown to four times.
