Taking a look at the Green Bay Packers complete 2012 NFL Draft

With the 2012 NFL Draft in the books, we can now say the Green Bay Packers made an emphatic attempt to improve the one facet they struggled in the most last season.

General Manager Ted Thompson went away from his “best player on the board,” motto and strictly went after defense.

Not since 2004 had Green Bay started out their draft with three consecutive defensive players. This year, they spent an unheard of six straight picks on the defensive side of the ball and even parted ways with three picks in order to trade up.

Everything you need to know about the Green Bay Packers Nick Perry

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Going into the 2012 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers were in desperate need of finding that special player to line up opposite All-Pro Clay Matthews.

With the 28th pick in the Draft, the Packers think they’ve found their guy with the uber-talented defensive end Nick Perry.

It’s only fitting that Perry and Matthews are both alums of USC.

Previewing the Green Bay Packers 2012 NFL Draft

 

 

 

 

 

Prior to a Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (only loss of the regular season), the Green Bay Packers looked like they were on an unstoppable path to back-to-back Super Bowls.

That was until the league’s opposing teams figured out how to slow down the NFL’s premier offense just enough to out-shoot them as the eventual World Champion New York Giants did in a divisional playoff bout in front of a stunned crowd at Lambeau Field.

Even though the loss was shocking to some, it’s not hard to figure out where the Packers went wrong last season. Their defense allowed an NFL-record 4,796 passing yards despite being one of the league leaders in blitzes (a.k.a no pass-rush).

And that is why it’s almost a no-brainer that GM Ted Thompson should and will bolster a 3-4 defense which is badly in need of a pick-me-up after a disappointing season.
