Orlando Magic should blow up their roster this off-season

The Sports Bank‘s series of NBA off-season team needs pages begins with the worst team in the league this past season; the Orlando Magic.  The franchise suffered a major setback after dealing disgruntled superstar Dwight Howard last off-season.  They enter the off-season stuck with a roster of average talent and rather than trying to scrape by, it is time for the Orlando Magic to blow up their roster and get straight to rebuilding mode.

Orlando Magic will struggle MIGHTILY without Dwight Howard

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

Dwight Howard had his wish granted and was freed from the Orlando Magic.  As a result, the Magic become one of the worst teams in the league as their post-Howard makeover will be quite painful.  (By the way, if you are keeping track at home I have the three worst teams in the Eastern Conference coming from the Southeast Division.)

2012-2013 NBA Preview – 10 Questions

LeBron James and Kevin Durant

It’s almost that time of year again. Wait, is it? But football hasn’t even started its regular season yet? In less than three months, the NBA will be tipping-off the 2012-2013 season when the Boston Celtics travel to Miami to take on LeBron James and the Heat. With all that said, let’s take a look at 10 questions surrounding next season.

Paying a Price for Trading a Superstar

Orlando Magic

There is no denying that Dwight Howard is a superstar and superstars only come around every so often. Teams are rarely willing to trade their superstar unless it’s for another superstar or a group of solid players and draft picks. That being said, I have no words for what took place last night.  [Read more…]

Dwight Howard will head to Los Angeles

Dwight Howard

After months and months of endless bull, the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers completed a trade package that included Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum. But thanks to two unlikely teams, this deal would not have been completed. Who is the winner? Who are the losers?

Where Dwight Howard SHOULD Go

Dwight Howard

From the information I have gathered it sounds like the Orlando Magic is going to trade Dwight Howard, their centerpiece, to the Brooklyn Nets. But before that happens, I have a message for the Magic organization.  [Read more…]

Can Orlando Magic do enough this off-season to keep Dwight Howard happy?

dwight howard trade

Dwight Howard is still a member of the Orlando Magic… for now.  However, that could be short lived as the team searches for a new general manager, head coach, and improved talent to complement their superstar this off-season.  In doing so, that might be enough to convince Howard to re-sign with Orlando rather than hitting the market as a free agent next summer.

NBA Playoffs: Kevin Durant is a “closer”

Kevin Durant

I have said this many times and will continue to say it until people realize it: Kevin Durant is the best BASKETBALL player on this planet. Not only is he 6’10, long, and lanky, but he can score, rebound, take over and close games. There is a big difference between him and 3-time MVP LeBron James: Durant lives in the gym. There is no denying James’ talent, but I am taking a gym-rat over a gifted-athlete ten times out of ten.

Shaquille O’Neal: The Future GM of the Orlando Magic?

Shaquille O'Neal

It’s interesting how things work. Everything seems to come full-circle more times than not. Shaquille O’Neal was drafted by the Orlando Magic way back in 1992. He spent four very productive years with the Magic before leaving Disney World for Los Angeles. Remember that O’Neal left for more money. Now, it’s reported that he might have an interview for the GM job of the Magic.

It’s finally time: Indiana Pacers vs. Miami Heat in Eastern Conference Semifinals

This time three years ago, the Indiana Pacers had fallen so far out of the public eye, both nationally and in their own city, there was talk the franchise might soon be on the move.

Now, they’re about to be as relevant in sports nation as they can be — they’re playing a playoff series against the most polarizing team in the NBA — and maybe in American sports.

Fresh off a 4-1 opening-round victory against the Orlando Magic in which the Pacers gained back much of the lost connection with local fans, they carry the momentum of their first playoff series win in seven years into an Eastern Conference Semifinal matchup with the second-seeded Miami Heat.

Does Indy stand a chance?

NBA Eastern Conference playoff preview: Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic

The NBA playoffs are here.

Dwight Howard is not.

With the All-Star center on the shelf for the remainder of 2011-12 with a back injury (and potentially done in Orlando), the Indiana Pacers, who hold the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 42-24 record, are clear favorites to advance to the conference semifinals in getting past the Magic.

Here’s a quick preview as Game 1 gets set to tip off just after 7 p.m. today at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
