D’eaux Tigers! Alabama Blanks LSU to Claim National Title

Ever since the rematch between Alabama and LSU was announced at the conclusion of the NCAA football season, there has been a heated debate as to whether or not these two teams deserved to face each other in New Orleans.

After all, Alabama lost at home to LSU, and they didn’t even play for their conference championship in December. In contrast, Oklahoma State won the Big 12 and only lost one game on the road.

Even with all of that animosity toward their presence in the game, Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide rolled into hostile territory in New Orleans and executed a defensive game plan that was one of the smartest ever displayed on this big of a stage. They held LSU to 92 total yards of offense, and only allowed the Tigers to cross the 50-yard line once en route to a 21-0 shutout victory to claim the school’s ninth national championship. AJ McCarron threw for 234 yards, and Trent Richardson rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Gundy is the third coach from the Big 12 Conference to win the award in the last 12 years.

If LSU or Oklahoma State Falls, Who Should Play in New Orleans?

If there is anything that we have learned in college football over the years, it’s that the most chaotic situation is the one most likely to happen. Whether it is a two-loss team like LSU getting a berth in the national title game due to several late losses by other contenders, or a team like Michigan getting passed over because voters didn’t want a rematch between the Wolverines and Ohio State, the mix of human emotion and computer analytics that the BCS provides always ensure that plenty of people will be talking about the outcome.

LSU, Alabama Remain on Top as SEC Dominates Latest BCS Poll

With only six days until their titanic clash in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide remained on top of the latest BCS standings, which were released on Sunday night. Despite not playing this week, they both remained ahead of an Oklahoma State Cowboys squad that destroyed Baylor on Saturday, but none of that matters now as what will arguably be the most hyped college football game in quite some time is really imminent.

Rapid Reaction: Oklahoma Has Crazy Second Half, Blows Out KSU

In a game that served as the first real test that the #8 Kansas State Wildcats have faced this year, they were found to be woefully lacking, as Landry Jones passed for 505 yards and the Oklahoma Sooners scored 44 unanswered points en route to a blistering 58-17 thrashing of KSU in Manhattan. Ryan Broyles had 14 catches for 171 yards and a score, and Jaz Reynolds caught two TD’s as well as the Sooners ended up with 690 yards of offense in the massive victory.

After a surprisingly eventful weekend in college football, the new BCS rankings came out on Sunday night with some big moves both up and down the board. LSU and Alabama remained the top two teams after their victories this weekend, but the Oklahoma Sooners and Wisconsin Badgers both felt the pain caused by their losses to Texas Tech and Michigan State, respectively, as they each plummeted down the rankings.

Here are the full rankings for this week:

Sooners Rout Longhorns, Put Pollsters On Notice

oklahoma dance team

Over the past few weeks, the Oklahoma Sooners have kept winning football games, but have seen their standing in the AP college football poll drop to #3, behind LSU and Alabama. They still received seven first place votes, but they still weren’t getting much respect for the voters, and they came into Saturday’s Red River Shootout with the Texas Longhorns looking to make a statement.

And make a statement they did.

Cowboys Use Huge Second Half From Weeden to Beat Aggies

The term “tale of two halves” gets bandied about a lot in the college football world. Ranked teams don’t give enough credit to an upstart bunch from a tiny school, and then all of a sudden they find themselves down at the half and are shocked back into playing like they’re capable of.

Obviously the “upstart” tag could hardly be applied to the number 8 team in the country, but the Texas A&M Aggies came out Saturday afternoon and punched the Oklahoma State Cowboys right in the mouth. On only the fourth play from scrimmage of the game, Aggie QB Ryan Tannehill took advantage of overzealous Cowboy defensive lineman and busted a 65 yard touchdown run up the middle to give his team the early 7-0 advantage. The Aggies rode that momentum all the way through the first half, scoring another touchdown thanks to a great catch by Jeff Fuller, and at the end of 30 minutes A&M had a 20-3 lead, and “The 12th man” at Kyle Field was up for grabs. Things were looking bleak for the Cowboys, but things turned around quickly.
