Ohio State CB Bradley Roby will possibly be suspended

Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby will have a short leash according to Urban Meyer. And a suspension is likely. Roby, a junior who was an afterthought recruit from the same high school as former Buckeyes DL Cameron Heyward, was arrested in Bloomington, Indiana on July 21st and faces preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury.

He was “asked to leave the bar after a disturbance, refused, and was subdued by bouncers at the bar before being taken into custody.”

Buckeyes Boom Herron Blows Up in Return From NCAA Suspension

Daniel “Boom” Herron wears #1 for the Ohio State Buckeyes. And when you see the difference he makes, it’s easy to understand why. He is the bonafide number one in their backfield “2 is not a winner, 3 nobody remembers.”

Yesterday, in the 17-7 win over previously unbeaten Illinois, Herron made his return from NCAA suspension. His first carry on the second play from scrimmage went for a first down; and he finished with 114 yards on 23 carries and one TD. It marked the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career.

Ohio St. Buckeyes Give Illini 1st Loss of Season in Boring Game

osu buckeyes logo

It was ugly, and anything but exciting. Still, Ohio State gave the Illini their first loss of the 2011 season. Buckyes QB Braxton Miller didn’t even complete a pass until 13:06 left in the fourth quarter, when he found TE Jake Stoneburner in the middle of the south end zone to put OSU up 16-0. They held on to win 17-7.

Prior to that play, Miller was just 0-3 passing on the day. The Buckeyes were BORING and one-dimensional today, but it was enough to beat #15 Illinois whose offense failed to show up today.

The Illini offensive line failed to protect that well and never opened up any run lanes. QB Nathan Scheelhaase and Center Graham Pocic couldn’t even get the snap right out on numerous occasions.

#15 Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: Brutally Honest Game Preview

ohio state cheerleader

When was the last time Ohio State were underdogs to the Fighting Illini? Was Dick Butkus still on campus? When the 3-3 Buckeyes visit #15 6-0 Illinois Saturday, no one will expect them to win.

And why should they? Whenever Illinois and Ohio State are close to being on the same page, the Illini almost always win. Whenever OSU is way above Illinois (what happens in most seasons) OSU wins. This year, the roles are totally reversed as Ohio St. is 0-2 in the Big Ten for just the second time since 1993, and losers of back-to-back games for the first time in 88 games (2004), snapping the nation’s longest streak without consecutive losses.

But hey, they do rank sixth in the NCAA with 27.4 yards per kickoff return. And given the opening kick disaster for the Illini last week in Bloomington, this statistic might have more relevance than you think.

Illinois won five in a row in this series from 1988-1992, and that sadly includes their most recent home win over the Buckeyes (1991). This sounds a little bit BUCKNUTS!!! but the Illini do much better in Columbus, winning there four times in the past fifteen years, including the famous 2007 game when OSU was #1.

Buckeyes visit #15 6-0 Illinois on Saturday, no one will be expecting them to win.

Ohio St. Suffering Through Down Season; Underdogs at Illinois

Brutus

When was the last time Ohio State were underdogs to the Fighting Illini? Sometime when Dick Butkus and/or Ray Nitschke was playing in Champaign? When the 3-3 Buckeyes visit #15 6-0 Illinois on Saturday, no one will be expecting them to win.

Ohio State is 0-2 in the Big Ten for just the second time since 1993, and they lost back-to-back games for the first time in 88 games (2004), snapping the nation’s longest streak without consecutive losses. But hey, they do rank sixth in the NCAA with 27.4 yards per kickoff return.

Illini Coach Ron Zook isn’t taking them lightly though- he believes this is the best rushing team they’ve faced this season. Carlos Hyde has stepped up in Daniel “Boom” Herron’s place. And Boom returns this week.

“Time to put on the big boy pads,” Zook said.

“this is a storied program and trust me they may be down a little bit, but they’re not out.”
