2012 Ohio State Buckeyes football: first two deep roster

The first official two-deep chart of the Urban Meyer coaching era at Ohio State was revealed today as Meyer presented it to a room of more than 40 reporters covering the news at the Woody Hayes Athletics Center.

With 18 starters returning from last season including both kickers, there are plenty of familiar names on the two-deep chart, including fourth-year starting fullback Zach Boren and three-year starters Jake Stoneburner (tight end), John Simon (defensive line) and C.J. Barnett (safety).

Ohio State Finds New Offensive Coordinator from Iowa State

I guess knocking Oklahoma State and Mike Gundy from the BcS national title game is worth a promotion/raise. Tom Herman, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Iowa State University got a new gig today: offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at The Ohio State University.

Iowa State had a very blah/mediocre season, but they’ll be a in bowl, and they gave the Oklahoma State Cowboys their only loss of the season. So that has to count for something.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer announced the hiring today.

NCAA Completes Ohio St Investigation; Big 10’s “Other Scandal”

Ohio State logo

The Ohio State University  has both metaphorically and literally “sent out a press release on Friday at 6pm” quite a few times this past year. They’ve had a lot of bad news to disclose to their media contingent regarding Jim Tressel, Terrelle Pryor, Boom Herron, Devier Posey, free tattoos, NCAA sanctions etc.

And that’s when you send out a media release of that sort, at the very end of the work week. Or better yet- the last work day before a long holiday weekend. And today’s news, comes at time that’s like a thousand Fridays before a holiday weekend, because everything is overshadowed by the current mess at Penn State.

The Buckeyes program is benefiting on a PR level from what’s happening within their very own conference; just one state over.

Yankees Nick Swisher: Honored by Ohio State Ballfield Dedication

The Ohio State University baseball program Thursday afternoon unveiled the newly-renovated Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes recognized the New York Yankees star Nick Swisher for his philanthropy. He gave the program $500,000 to help install a new field.

“The word honor comes to mind,” Swisher said. “I never would have thought I would have been at Ohio State. When I came here, I experienced that passion, pride and tradition that Ohio State has. I think everyone on the team experiences that every single day. It’s been an amazing thing.” [Read more…]

How Badly Does Ohio State Need and Want Urban Meyer?

Despite his current enviable cushy ESPN job, former Florida Gators Head Coach Urban Meyer will return to coaching college football. And probably next year, with either the Penn State Nittany Lions, or more likely the Ohio State Buckeyes.

It’s the worst kept secret in the game- the Buckeyes football brass wants Meyer. They want/him need him more than 473 pound ex-football coach Mark Mangino needs/wants high calorie, artery-clogging types of food.

Luke Fickell will be the next fall guy in Columbus. I thought he was possibly being set up for that this summer, but now with what a train wreck the 2011 offense is, and how the Bucknuts are becoming the likely 6-6 or 5-7 Sucknuts, it’s certain that he’s the next sacrificial lamb. Jim Tressel and Terrelle Pryor weren’t enough. The culture of corruption runs so deep at the shoe that another high profile name will need to be axed in order to sever all ties with the old regime.

Wolverines, Illini Enter Top 25; Buckeyes, Spartans Drop Out

The Big Ten saw two teams drop out of the national polls this week; only to be replaced by two different teams. The Michigan Wolverines, who were on the cusp of the rankings last week, entered for the first time this college football season at #22.

Fresh off their 31-3 pasting of their little sister Eastern Michigan from slightly down the road, the Wolverines will take on their mentor’s former employer in the San Diego State Aztecs. Let the Brady Hoke Bowl begin.

And the Illinois Fighting Illini, who came in with zero total votes in both polls the previous week checked in at #24. Their HUGE win over #18 Arizona State.
