John-Shurna-Northwestern

The leading scorer in the Big Ten last season, and greatest player in Northwestern history finally has a NBA home, as multiple sources report the New York Knicks have signed John Shurna.

It’s a one year deal for Shurna, who struggled with the Atlanta Hawks summer league this past season.

When Tyson Chandler was a member of the Chicago Bulls, he was a force on the defensive end. Now with the New York Knicks, he’s had a strong season in which he won NBA Defensive Player of the Year. (AP Source)

Chandler is one of the more unselfish players in the league, and somewhat of an anomaly within the league. The statistical case for him to be Def POY is highlighted in the video below.

Deron Williams schools Jeremy Lin by dropping 38 on him

deron_williams

Deron Williams made a statement with his game. He said “welcome to the big boy table Jeremy Lin, this is how we do it here.” Or maybe “I’m getting sick of hearing about Linsanity, let’s silence it.”

The New York Knicks lost for the second time in the Lin era falling to the rival New Jersey Nets 100-92. Williams scored a season high 38, with eight 3s and 6 assists, absolutely putting a clinic on the international media sensation. And you might have seen this coming, given how D. Will reacted to questions about Lin a few days ago:

Chinese celebrating Knicks’ Jeremy Lin as their own; spiting Taiwan

china-flag

Who knew the underdog story of a star basketball player in America would parallel political strife in the Far East? And that he would become yet another point of disagreement between a world power and a fledgling separatist state?

Jeremy Lin is the feel good story for the NBA and America at large. The underdog story of a Taiwanese-American and Harvard graduate who had no D-1 offers and went undrafted is dominating sports media right now.

Lin had 38 points versus Kobe Bryant and the New York Knicks. The legend grew. Then he hit a buzzer-beating, game winning three-pointer versus the Toronto Raptors last night. With Tuesday’s 90-87 win over Toronto, the Knicks are now 7-0 in the Lin era. In just a week and change, the Knicks have gone from coach-on-the-seat to playoff position.

His exploits have caught world media attention, and made him a huge star in Taiwan, an obscure island state (recognized as a nation by just 23 countries, considered part of China by the rest) with a population of 23 million. The Taiwanese are currently celebrating Lin as one of their own countrymen.

However the Chinese have sovereignty of Taiwan, and therefore the Chinese believe Lin is one of theirs.

Knicks star Jeremy Lin offered free apartment during apartment search

Jeremy Lin is the newest ESPN created sensation. No doubt he’s been great in his very, very small sample size that is his brief NBA career, but the WWL jumped the gun even faster than they did on Tim Tebow, if that’s possible. And, if you’ve been consuming the sports media lately, Lin has been deemed the winner of the next NBA MVP award. Maybe the next five.

A tweet from Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald, PRAISING Lin drew ire from NBA fans (and it’s understandable when you read the back-handed slam at the NBA in it)

What he’s done to help revive/save the New York Knicks this year has gotten a lot of attention; especially when you consider his minimal salary and the fact that he’s doing it all while crashing on his brother’s couch. Well that changes now.
