USC Trojan Trio of Future NFL 1st Round Picks: Barkley, Kalil, Woods

The USC Trojans have two underclassmen (QB Matt Barkley and OT Matt Kalil) who look like top 10 picks in the 2011 draft. And they have a sophomore (WR Robert Woods) who should be a top pick in the 2012 draft. Given all the sanctions USC is under, and their current place in the college football landscape, it’s pretty obvious that all Trojan underclassmen with a legit chance of going pro early; will.

Fresh off their solid 30-17 win at Notre Dame. It was a great chance for the upper midwest to see these three blue chip prospects in action. And given how much the game meant to ND, it ended up being the biggest win of Lane Kiffin‘s USC career.

“You get the sense that this was their Super Bowl here, and all of the official visitors and moving it to a night game, the bye before.  So it’s even more pleasing to come in here with all of that stuff going on around and our players played really well,” Kiffin said at the postgame press conference.

USC Trojans vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Brutally Honest Game Preview

usc-song-girl

It’s not often that we pick a game with two unranked teams for BHGP. And other than September non-conference or bowl games, we don’t do the intersectional thing much either. But this is college football’s top inter-sectional rivalry: USC Trojans vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Both are on the cusp of the AP top 25, so winner gets a national ranking.

USC has won 11 of the last 14. Notre Dame had an 11-game winning streak from 1983-1995.

This rivalry began in 1926, when Knute Rockne became the first Midwestern coach to take a team to the West Coast (Notre Dame won 13-12) and the teams have meet every season since (taking 1943-45 off due to travel restrictions during World War II).

Notre Dame-USC to get Increased TV Exposure on Rivalry Weekend

usc-song-girls

Don’t you love rivalry weekend? Or more specifically, rivalry weekends in college football? I think it’s genius marketing that they have almost every team play their bitter rival on the last weekend of the year. Last Saturday, we had Northwestern versus the Illini in the Wrigleyville Classic, Stanford-Cal in “the Big Game” and more.

This Saturday we get more nick-named blood-feuds like “the Egg Bowl” (Mississippi vs. Mississippi St.) “the Apple Cup (Washington vs. Washington St.) and of course, my favorite “THE GAME” (Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes.

But don’t forget ND-USC, because ABC certainly isn’t.
