Michigan makes it 5 consecutive NCAA Title game losses for Big Ten

The Big Ten in the NCAA Title game of college basketball is starting to get like the Big Ten in bowl games versus the SEC in college football. Since Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans won the NCAA Title in 2000, the Big Ten has finished runner-up in the NCAA Title game five times: Hoosiers in 2002, Illini in 2005, Buckeyes in 2007,  Spartans in 2009, and now the Wolverines in 2013.

Louisville outlasted Michigan 82-76 to secure the NCAA title.

And I am emotionally spent! What else could you ask for as a college basketball fan watching a NCAA title game? It was full of runs, tough defense, hustle, and a hard fought victory in the closing minutes…it was simply a great game!

Is The NCAA Basketball Champion in The Big Ten?

trey-Burke

If there is a time for the Big Ten to exert their dominance in basketball, this is it! The conference has just suffered another poor football season, has been hit by scandal, and its teams continue to lose bowl games (2-5 in bowls this season). It is time for Big Ten basketball to rise to new heights; it’s time for the Big Ten to produce a national champion.

The NBA’s Opportunity to Fix Pro & College Basketball

A few weeks ago, during an episode of “The B.S. Report,” Bill Simmons and Chuck Klosterman discussed (half-heartedly) ideas in which to make college basketball players stay in school longer than just one season.

That discussion triggered a memory of a conversation I had in a dimly lit ice fishing shack a little more than a year ago with a buddy of mine. The finer points of that conversation were a little hazy (we had consumed a lion’s share of the light beer in Itasca County, Minnesota at that point) I remember clearly coming up with an idea that had the same goal as Simmons and Klosterman, but resulted in a much more logical conclusion (I think, or at least the way I remembered) and in effect came up with the method in which the NBA can fix NCAA Basketball‘s biggest problem (which would also solve an NBA problem).

The Sports Bank “My Boy” Team

As the collegiate basketball season comes to a conclusion this evening, there is still hardware to be handed out that isn’t related to the National Championship. There’s the All-Americans, the Cousy Award, the Wooden Award and plenty of others, however here at The Sports Bank we like to honor players in a different manner.

Where Does Butler Go From Here?

by Peter Christian

The Butler Bulldogs accomplished a boatload in 2010. They had the longest winning streak of the season. They knocked off the heavily favored Syracuse Orange in the Sweet 16. They plowed their way through their bracket all the way to the National Championship and gave Duke a serious run for their money. They came within an inch or two of hitting a game winning shot to win the title. Now what?

The NCAA Thinks Academics Are Silly

by Peter Christian

Remember back in the day when no one would admit that every decision the NCAA made was about money? Instead they would defend their choices by hiding behind cliche sayings like “protecting the integrity of the sport” or “academics come first” or “they are student-athletes and in that order.” The NCAA still runs those ridiculous tv ads showing how most NCAA athletes will not become professional athletes and that competing in NCAA sanctioned events better prepares them for those real world jobs. Guess what… the NCAA is full of shit.

March is a great time of year in college basketball, but it’s times like these I wonder why I still look forward to it and enjoy it.
