Tony Stewart’s season goes up in Smoke, but not his race team for 2014


I am sorry, Smoke, but you must sit — for the next three months.

And I don’t mean inside your stock car.

One of the biggest names in NASCAR is Tony Stewart, a three-time Sprint Cup champion and part-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. Tony Stewart is also Danica Patrick’s boss, as One Lap Downica herself races the No. 10 Chevrolet for SHR.

Miss Sprint Cup is a NASCAR fan’s friend on the inside of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. There’s a lot more to the gig than meets the eye. A lot more. It’s the ultimate insider gig for racing buffs. This year’s Miss Sprint Cup is Jaclyn Roney of Ann Arbor, Michigan. (She also has an Illinois connection, as she has family in Batavia).

She’s also a Wolverines fan, but from a Michigan, Michigan State house divided, as it contains Spartans allegiances.

37-year-old Shannon Spake is a NASCAR correspondent for ESPN. You’ve seen Shannon Spake on both NASCAR Countdown and NASCAR Now, and she occasionally appears on SportsCenter when they expand NASCAR coverage.

Before coming to ESPN, Shannon Spake worked at the Speed Channel, where she co-hosted NASCAR Nation and served as a reporter. She also co-hosted Back Seat Drivers with online columnist Marty Smith. Her previous on-air jobs included WCCB Charlotte and Carolina Sports and Entertainment Television.

NASCAR fans Boo First Lady Michelle Obama (Video)


First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, the wife of the Vice President were booed at NASCAR’s season finale today in Miami.Well, we know that NASCAR events are filled with people who lean so far to the right, I’m surprised the track doesn’t tip over.

Pre-race festivites included a salute to military troops and families. Obama and Biden served as grand marshals for the event. But the crowd didn’t care, and voiced their disapproval anyway.

Mitt Romney’s funny NASCAR, Ford Field verbal gaffes

He failed.

Romney only verified further my idea that he’s “Republican John Kerry,” at least when it comes to being the least convincing sports fan/most out of touch with everyday America alive.

NASCAR and Fox Sports reach multi-year deal


With two full seasons left on their current television contract, NASCAR and FOX Sports Media Group (FSMG) announced today an extensive new eight-year, multiplatform media rights agreement that ensures FSMG’s broadcast of NASCAR racing through 2022.

Under terms of the new agreement, FSMG also significantly increases its digital rights to include “TV Everywhere” live race streaming of its portion of the season for the first time ever beginning in 2013. [Read more…]

NASCAR national media blitz in Chase across America


Ten different drivers embarked on a 10-city media blitz Tuesday as Day 2 of ‘Chase Across America’ kicked into high gear.

NASCAR’s second-annual cross-country media tour – in which the 12 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers visit the 10 Chase track markets, New York City and Bristol, Conn. – featured events ranging from pep rallies to baseball games, and boat tours to firefighting lessons.
