Kentucky Wildcats Place Three Freshmen on Naismith Award Watch List

The watch list for the Naismith Award, honoring the nation’s top college basketball player, was release today. The Kentucky Wildcats and North Carolina Tar Heels lead the way, as each school had four players make the short list. For UK, three of them are freshmen from their soon-to-be-legendary recruiting class: Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Marquis Teague.

All three are McDonald’s All-Americans and they have a fourth MAA Kyle Wiltjer, who just missed making the watch list. Go here (A Sea of Blue) to learn more about their talented freshmen class.

Locally, John Shurna of Northwestern has also earned the recognition. He is also on the watch list for the Wooden Award for the second consecutive season, which is a similar award.

Wisconsin Badgers Jon Leuer Makes Naismith Top 30 Midseason List


In addition to causing NBA scouts to drool over his versatile game, Wisconsin Badgers starting forward Jon Leuer has been named to the Naismith Midseason List.

The list is comprised of the top 30 players in the country chosen by Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors. The Naismith Award, given to the top player in the country, will be handed out during the 2011 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Houston.

Leuer has played a key role in helping #13 Wisconsin (18-5, 8-3) reach second in the Big Ten Standings while averaging 19.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Naimsith Award List Narrowed Down to 30

The Atlanta Tipoff Club announces today the 2010-11 Naismith midseason list of the top 30 men’s basketball talent in the nation. After three months of phenomenal college basketball play, several players are distinguishing themselves as reflected in the list.

The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the 2011 NCAA Men’s Final Four in Houston.

Through the power and ease of text messaging, fan voting will account for 25 percent of all of the final results – more than any other national college basketball award.
