Apparently there isn’t much of a difference between Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls and the conference’s lower seeds.

A 100-95 win over the New York Knicks Sunday afternoon proved the Milwaukee Bucks are, in fact, capable of building an early lead and holding on against decent competition.

It’s amazing that the difference between success and failure in the NBA can sometimes boil down to one simple action: making shots. Of course, that concept is just the end result of combined success moving off-the-ball, running the offense, and making decisive, quality passes.

All of that winning was the Milwaukee Bucks in a nutshell in their 102-74 win over the Philadelphia 76ers Saturday night. After handily beating two NBA Eastern Conference doormats in the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers, the Bucks strung together their best 48 minutes of the season against a quality 76ers team that laughed last against Milwaukee in nine of their last 11 meetings.

Tuesday, it was the starters. Wednesday, it was the bench.

For the first time all season, the Milwaukee Bucks strung together a back-to-back set of games where the first unit drove the Land Rover of victory one night, only to have the second unit jump start the stalled vehicle on the way to another win 24 hours later.

Phoenix Suns scorching third quarter burns Milwaukee Bucks

All too often this season, you’ll read Milwaukee Bucks recaps after a loss focusing on a single quarter that effectively killed the Bucks chances at a victory. Unfortunately, Friday night’s 102-88 loss to the Phoenix Suns was no different thanks to a third quarter collapse uglier than that of the 2010 U.S. housing market.

The Milwaukee Bucks‘ 94-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night played out like a bizarro version of the Mia Hamm/Michael Jordan Gatorade commercials. Anything Milwaukee did, Minnesota did worse, and neither team could do anything consistently better than the other. Case and point: The game’s final two minutes.

Bucks-Timberwolves analysis: Wins are a point of view

It’s never a good thing when Andrew Bogut plays 23 minutes and attempts five shots in a game against a less than impressive front line. But Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles had a few interesting lineup combinations that ultimately carried the Bucks to their 94-88 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Milwaukee Bucks mistakes help Denver Nuggets end road woes

“We played hard, we just didn’t play well.”

Those words, said by Milwaukee Bucks coach Scott Skiles after the team’s 94-87 loss to the Denver Nuggets, are eerily similar to the phrase that Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott used to describe his team during its 26 game losing streak.

It makes sense coming from a team that is rebuilding, young, and just looking for any way to boost confidence. The Milwaukee Bucks are not extremely young, in transition as an organization, or lacking decent talent, which makes that statement all the more depressing heading into the 2011 NBA All-Star Break.

The Milwaukee Bucks 92-74 win over the Toronto Raptors wasn’t anything you would label a “signature” victory or “corner-turning” rout. But Milwaukee needs to take any win they can get, which is more than enough to justify feeling good about pounding the clawless Raptors.

You know a team is starving for a victory and built around defense with scoring 92 points and still winning by 18 is called a blow out. Nevertheless, the Milwaukee Bucks 92-74 victory over the Toronto Raptors Tuesday night was the dominant win the Bucks have failed to capture over the past month.

The Milwaukee Bucks weathered the storm of a nasty December-January schedule in a way that made the Perfect Storm shipmen look like they were on an Alaskan cruise. But now that it’s over, the Bucks kicked off the NBA’s easiest second half schedule with a 100-87 win over the Washington Wizards, who are now 0-20 on the road this season.
