The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders. There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.
After finishing with the worst winning percentage in NBA history, the Charlotte Bobcats have nowhere to go but up. Their rise won’t be rapid but owner Michael Jordan made a couple of minor moves that should make the ‘Cats slightly more competitive this season although not likely enough to get them out of the cellar of the Eastern Conference.

Follow paulmbanksNBA Combine in Chicago: Anthony Davis unites local and national interest
With the NBA Draft Combine rolling through Chicago this week, you probably saw a ton of very tall young men strolling down Michigan Avenue. Or at least more near-seven-footers than usual; especially on the Magnificent Mile, where the draft combine’s media activities were held.
No doubt the star of this year’s session is Anthony Davis, the Chicago product who dominated for the national champion Kentucky Wildcats. The man with the unibrow took home all the major individual college basketball awards, and will soon go #1 overall to the New Orleans Hornets.

I am back with my “Player Comparisons”. After taking a few weeks off, I thought it would be smart for me to start doing this because I know a lot of people are looking forward to the June draft. Today I am focusing on Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Take a look at his profile!
#1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. #4 Louisville Cardinals: everything you need to know
It’s a bluegrass, bourbon, basketball battle. The biggest meeting ever between the two rivals from the state of Colonel Sanders’ fried chicken and his secret recipe. It’s the Kentucky Wildcats vs. the Louisville Cardinals at the Final Four in New Orleans. Sounds very Southern (and drunk) to me.
Let’s get to it!
Follow paulmbanksMore Kentucky Wildcats tourney wins=more emphasis on one-and-done prospects
There aren’t many songs about Kentucky. However, Elvis (Presley, not Costello, Grbac or Dumervil) did sing about “the cold Kentucky rain.” But with the way Kentucky’s college basketball team whipped Baylor today, and how convincing they look as the favorite to cut down the nets in New Orleans, and it’ll be “Kentucky reign.”
And Kentucky reign is based on John Calipari buying recruiting the top-of-the-line prospects; the one-and-done to the NBA guys. Big Blue has become the destination for blue-chip recruits, year-in and year-out, they keep replenishing them. And if UK wins it all this year, expect more teams to copy their style.
