NY Mets owners settle Bernie Madoff lawsuit for $162 million


Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, owners of the New York Mets, have settled a suit brought against them by Madoff victim trustee Irving Picard for $162 million. The suit first alleged that Wilpon and Katz were “willfully blind” to the fact that Bernie Madoff, the Ponzi schemer who reportedly made the two men millions of dollars in profits, was ripping off other investors.

Setting Up Detroit Tigers Pitching for Postseason Success

Closer Jose Valverde and starter Justin Verlander obviously anchor the pitching staff in Detroit. The former has forty save opportunities in the same amount of chances. The latter has garnered his twenty-first victory already with almost a month left. Valverde’s numbers are a little misleading because his whip is near one and a third. This would usually dictate a few blown saves, but he has been the master in working his way out of jams.

The team buried the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night after coming back from a seven run deficit.

New York Mets Respond to Owner’s Public Bashing of Beltran, Reyes, Wright

The New York Mets held a team meeting on Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field to address the elephant barging inside the tight quarters of the visitor’s clubhouse: The comments of team owner Fred Wilpon, who ripped the team and three of his best players in the latest edition of The New Yorker.

Wilpon reached out Tuesday to apologize to outfielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Jose Reyes and third baseman David Wright.
