And you thought what Florida State did to NIU in the Orange Bowl was bad. I guess Northern Illinois is a college football school; because their college basketball program is horrendous. Some years they’re bad, this year they are a train wreck. Today they were to scoring what Tim Beckman is to coaching. In a 42-25 loss to Eastern Michigan, the Huskies had 4, count ’em four points well into the second half. Obviously many of their football games are more high scoring than today.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Ohio Bobcats were one of the teams to put on Cinderella’s slipper in last year’s NCAA Tournament, advancing as a 13 seed to the Sweet 16 where they nearly knocked off North Carolina before falling in overtime.  Head coach John Groce left for Illinois but Jim Christian comes from TCU to lead an OU team that returns all nine rotation players from last season.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Kent State Golden Flashes suffered a heart-breaking end to the MAC Tournament Championship game when they lost by one point to Akron in overtime, thus missing out on the NCAA Tournament.  With six of their top seven players back from the last year, Kent State will once again be the team to beat in the MAC.

Perhaps the only team standing in the way of Kent State winning their third straight MAC Championship is the Western Michigan Broncos.  With all five starters back from a team that won 21 games a year ago, WMU should contend for the conference title.

During Billy Taylor’s four years as head coach of the Ball State Cardinals, the program has shown steady progress.  With their top five scorers back, the Cards should compete for the MAC title.
