The odds are stacked in the Packers’ favor against the Detroit Lions

When the Detroit Lions visit Green Bay it gives the media a chance to show off a bunch of unique statistics in the NFL, a league which has become defined by parity.

The recent past between the Lions and Packers has nothing to do with parity.

The Lions haven’t won in the state of Wisconsin since 1991, back when Barry Sanders was breaking ankles and dropping the jaw of every fan in the nation.

NFC North Marathon begins with the Detroit Lions for the Green Bay Packers

Five of the Green Bay Packers’ seven remaining games will come against NFC North opponents. That should make for a very interesting division battle as Green Bay (6-3) sits just one game back of the Chicago Bears (7-2).

The marathon begins with the Detroit Lions who are coming off a tough 34-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and will need every game they can get in order to make the playoffs. [Read more…]

What should the Detroit Lions do with their first two draft picks?

detroit-lions

Why do I have the Detroit Lions going O Line in both of the first two rounds of the NFL Draft? Am I nuts? Well, probably, but not because of my mock draft. The picks I made are for different positions among the big guys up front. And there’s versatility with what I can do here in their starting lineup by plugging in those guys.

Most importantly, their RBs have not been healthy, and they got to do a better job keeping Matt Stafford up right.

Who is the Best Running Back in the NFC North?

Jay Cutler was taking care of business for the Chicago Bears. He will be sidelined during the upcoming week with his broken thumb. His entire season is actually in question due to the “ailment.”

He has had tremendous help offensively in the backfield thus far from Matt Forte and Marion Barber. Forte, the Tulane product, is in his fourth season and already has accumulated over four thousand yards on the ground. Half of the schedule is still obviously in play to increase those numbers dramatically.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: WR/TE

It’s the second week of teams out on a bye, but this one could hurt fantasy owners more. The likes of Larry Fitzgerald, Antonio Gates and Philip Rivers will all be on your fantasy bench this week, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of quality options. In fact, any of the top-30 receiving options are good plays his week. In today’s rankings, we’ll break down the top fantasy football pass catchers for week 6.

Bears DT Anthony Adams: (Gut Busting Dance Video)

Every great football movie/tv show has the loud, ostentatious, lovable fat guy character in it. Think about it: Billy Bob in “Varsity Blues,” the grifter guy in “Wildcats,” Tanker in “Friday Night Lights,” the list goes on and on.

A real life show-off lard ass exists on the Chicago Bears in DT Anthony Adams. It’s just too bad the team did not play as well as Adams gets down. The Bears got smacked by the Detroit Lions 24-13

As we found out here. Watch the “Adams groove” (yes, I did intentionally reference a MC Hammer hit theme song to a crappy movie) after the jump

Detroit Lions 24, Chicago Bears 13: Rapid Reaction

matt_stafford

Stop us if you heard this before- Jay Cutler didn’t have much a pocket to work with, and his receivers did very little to help him.

Matthew Stafford (19-26-219-1-2), on the other hand, actually had some protection, and his two TD passes put Detroit ahead in the third. Jahvid Best’s (12-163-1) 88-yard run later in the third quarter gave the Lions a double-digit lead, and they held on for a 24-13 win over the Chicago Bears Monday night. It was the first home Monday night game in Detroit in a decade.

The Lions (5-0) are undefeated through five games for the first time since 1956—the year before their last NFL title.

How Can the Minnesota Vikings Actually Win a Game?

The teams that met from the NFC North on Sunday in Minneapolis seem to be heading in vastly different directions. The Lions are a youthful and exuberant bunch, while the Vikings are a beaten down lackadaisical squad. I have some suggestions for Leslie Frazier on how Minnesota can join their divisional foes in the win column.

Detroit Lions 3-0: Coming Through In Crunch Time

The Minnesota Vikings staged a second half collapse for the second week in a row. Last game, the team fell prey to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this week to an improved Detroit Lions. Given how impressive Detroit has looked in going 3-0, perhaps that’s progress. With all of his recent success, Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz should be negotiating for a contract extension right now. Then again for the Vikings, blowing a twenty point halftime lead cannot be considered a morale victory no matter who the opponent.

Hard to consider anything positive in that.

Detroit Lions Hold the Lead, Close the Deal

matt_stafford

The Lions looked to be the better team for the entire portion of the game on Sunday and were able to hold on for the victory against the Tampa Bay Bucs. Matthew Stafford threw for over three hundred yards and passed for three touchdowns. He beat out his fellow first round pick of a few years ago, Josh Freeman. It is true that the former does have substantially more weapons, but the latter had greater success last year from which to build on.

Jay Cutler almost put up the same kind of numbers as Stafford on Sunday, but the difference was that the Lions needed all of those statistics to come up with a victory. It is easier to compile impressive numbers when it is not necessary to the outcome of the game. Stafford missed about eighty percent of the season last year with multiple separated shoulders, so fans certainly gasped when they saw him limping around during portions of the game and holding his hand awkwardly on occasion. Neither came to the forefront as issues to be addressed.

New England Patriots Look Kinda Bad in 34-10 Loss to Detroit Lions

patriots female fans

Again, it’s preseason football and therefore scoreboards about as accurate and meaningful as compliments a stripper gives you, but losing 34-10 to the Detroit Lions wasn’t very promising for the New England Patriots because well, their starters got beaten kinda badly by Motown’s starters.

Chad Ochocinco did not have a good game. He dropped a pass, and had zero catches while being thrown to four times.
