Saints-Buccaneers Winner Has Inside Track to NFC South Title

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Atlanta Falcons, like the New Orleans Saints, are 1-1 in the NFC South, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a surprise 2-0 edge while the Panthers have a (less surprising) 0-2 hole they have to climb out of. After Sunday’s game between the Bucs and Saints, things could get a bit more interesting in the NFC South.

At the midpoint of the season, let’s look at who might have the inside track to win the division.

Indianapolis Colts Eye First Win against Kansas City Chiefs

This might be as good a chance to get that first win of 2011 as the Indianapolis Colts might get in this second quarter of the NFL season.

The Colts (0-4) welcome the similarly struggling Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) to Lucas Oil Stadium at 1 p.m. today in search of a victory that has eluded them thus far this season.

There are several reasons why Indy can come out on top in this battle of division cellar dwellers who both won their divisions in 2010 (how quickly things change in the NFL).

Indianapolis Colts Get Banged Up, Fall to 0-4

This one hurt. In more ways than one.

Not only did the Indianapolis Colts fall to 0-4 with their 24-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, the team also incurred injuries to several difference-making players — one such injury among the ugliest the sport has seen.

Curtis Painter Gets His Shot with Indianapolis Colts against Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last Thursday I called for and expected Curtis Painter to be the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback for tonight’s prime-time affair with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) at Raymond James Stadium.

He indeed will get such an opportunity.

With previous starter Kerry Collins still experiencing concussion-like symptoms, Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Friday that Painter, a third-year player out of Purdue, would get the nod for the team’s lone appearance on ESPN’s Monday Night Football this season.

What to make of this decision? It could result in a very telling outing by the Colts one way or the other.

Week 4 Fantasy Football Rankings: Put up or shut up

We’re three weeks into the fantasy football season and the surprises just keep on coming. Cam Newton and Matthew Stafford are top-10 fantasy quarterbacks. Coe College alum Fred Jackson is the third best fantasy back. And how about Scott Chandler, who had one catch before this year, picking up four scores in the first three weeks. But much like business, it’s not what you did last week; it’s what are you going to do for me now. So let’s look into the crystal ball and find this weeks surprise, shall we?

Week 3 Fantasy Football Rankings: The Injury Bug Bites

It shouldn’t surprise any of us. In a game as violent as football, injuries are bound to happen. Top-5 pick Jamaal Charles is out for season. Miles Austin is out until October 16th. Let’s not even get started on Peyton Manning.  Much like their professional counterparts, fantasy owners need to find ways to fill the void left by their injured players. Included in this week’s rankings, I’ll list some guys that could step in for your injured star this week.
