Kyle Busch: favorite at Sonoma Sprint Cup Race?

In most team sports, having home-field advantage can make a difference in the outcome of a game, and that typically occurs for at least half of each season. In NASCAR, while many drivers race at venues near their hometowns, there are no more than two “home games” each 36-race season.

Not so for Kyle Busch, driver of the No. M&M’s Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) at Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350k on the 1.99-mile road course at Sonoma, Calif. The Las Vegas native feels very much at home all up and down the western part of the country, where the series races no less than five times each year from Phoenix to Sonoma.

Kyle Busch ready for Pocono 400 (interview)

The list of racetracks where Kyle Busch has yet to win in any of NASCAR’s top three divisions – Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck – is not long.

In fact, there are only three left on that list – Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, the site of Sunday’s Pocono 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Of the 28 tracks that will host NASCAR’s top three divisions in 2012, Busch has competed at every circuit but Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., and he has won at 24 of them.

Kyle Busch has engine breakdown; finishes disappointing 29th at Dover

Kyle Busch was strong early in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday at Dover International Speedway, but a mechanical issue caused him to complete only 202 of the scheduled 400 laps and finish 29th in the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks.
