Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The Kent State Golden Flashes suffered a heart-breaking end to the MAC Tournament Championship game when they lost by one point to Akron in overtime, thus missing out on the NCAA Tournament.  With six of their top seven players back from the last year, Kent State will once again be the team to beat in the MAC.

Illinois! Kent State! NIT Madness!!

I suppose by madness, you could look at it as mad that I drove for 2 or 3 hours to cover a second round NIT game.  That certainly could be considered MAD!

Or just plain dumb, depending on your point of view.

But the fact is that I really like this group of Illinois players. I wish them nothing but success.  I want them to win. And though I’m not that emotionally invested in their success in the NIT, I still want to see them do well.

I guess, for better or worse, I’ll have the action for you here tonight, in about two minutes. Only roughly 9-10,000 tickets sold, too, so I know you’re at home in front of your laptops…
