Arizona Diamondbacks promote Northwestern grad Bo Schultz

Thanksgiving dinner is likely to seem especially tasty for onetime American Association hurler Bo Schultz since news arrived Wednesday that he had been added to the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 40-man roster after a strong showing in the Arizona Fall League. The 28-year-old righty and Northwestern journalism grad, who was mostly a bullpen contributor (4-3, 4.13 in 37 appearances) while helping Grand Prairie, TX win the Association title in 2011, went 3-0 with a 3.09 earned run average in seven starts in the AFL after both starting and relieving for the D-Backs’ top two farm clubs this summer.

Kansas City Royals find new Single A Affiliate in Kane County Cougars

kansas city royals

As you know, I love me some Kane County Cougars. Romantically predatory and 50-year-old women from the far west suburbs are usually….oh wait, we’re talking about the minor league baseball team!

(cue the rimshot, thanks I’ll be here all week, the 10 o’clock show is a totally different show from the 7. Please tip your bartenders)

Anyways, the Cougars will no longer be the single A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Before the Oakland affiliation, the Cougars were with the Florida Marlins.

A’s pitching Prospect Ian Krol develops at home

It’s pretty rare for a minor league pitcher to develop and perfect his craft, just a short drive from where they grew up. Kane County Cougars hurler Ian Krol, the 16th ranked prospect in the Oakland Athletics system is one of those rare cases. He has the advantage of numerous family and friends supporting him at his games.

The Naperville, IL native grew up going to Cougars games and even got to throw out the first ball at a game for a 9th birthday present.

He was a 7th round draft choice, but should have been taken much much higher. His draft stock fell because he got caught in violation of some bulls** alcohol policy Neuqua Valley high school has (he was never legally charged with anything in relation to the incident) and the school board arbitrarily suspended him for senior year. Having a “legal issue” on his “permanent record” temporarily hurt his career.
