Chicago Bears Season Outlook: 2nd Quarter

Maurice Jones-Drew

Can MJD be the undoing of the Chicago Bear’s entire season?

According to my own sound reasoning, the Bears will either be 3-1 or 2-2 heading into the 2nd quarter of the 2012 NFL season. All things considered, 2-2 isn’t exactly reason for panic.

Luckily for the Bears, sandwiched between games 5 thru 8 is their bye week in week 6. And the next quartet of opponents appears to be a less daunting bunch… on paper.

But the Jaguars, Lions, Panthers and Titans will all be looking to show the Bears why the game isn’t played on paper.

Jaguars 1st round pick Justin Blackmon: DUI arrest, 3 times legal limit!

justin-blackmon

The Jacksonville Jaguars got some negative news today regarding their first round pick. Justin Blackmon, the #5 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State, was busted for DUI, and it was a whopper- three times the legal limit in the state of Oklahoma. The incident occurred early Sunday morning and is not Blackmon’s first offense of this sort.

He was also arrested on DUI suspicion in 2010, was caught doing 92 in a 60 mph zone, and found himself suspended for a game.

Minnesota Vikings’ Draft Needs

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings had a very disappointing 2011 season, finishing 3-13 and last place in the NFC North. Their poor performance landed them the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 draft. New Year’s Resolutions for the Minnesota Vikings

adrian peterson

A season that didn’t seem to be able to get any worse just did during the Christmas Eve game against the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. Not only did the Vikings come out of the contest victorious, but franchise running back Adrian Peterson tore his ACL and MCL. Happy holidays to the purple people eaters. For those of you who are thinking that the injury isn’t a big deal because of the timing, consider the recovery. These are two severe injuries that require extensive rehabilitation. The treatment will be both physical and psychological for AP. It is not even certain if the recovery will be fully to his previous condition.

What we do know is that he is expected to make a full recovery in time for opening day 2012. He should be 100% by sometime in the early-mid preseason.

It’s that time of year where all of us vow to cut out those midnight snacks and work out more.

If I spent half as much time exercising as watching other people play sports, I’d be on a commercial for GNC. The Minnesota Vikings certainly have some resolutions that need to be adhered to in order to avoid the sub-par play fans have witnessed throughout the last two seasons.

If LSU or Oklahoma State Falls, Who Should Play in New Orleans?

If there is anything that we have learned in college football over the years, it’s that the most chaotic situation is the one most likely to happen. Whether it is a two-loss team like LSU getting a berth in the national title game due to several late losses by other contenders, or a team like Michigan getting passed over because voters didn’t want a rematch between the Wolverines and Ohio State, the mix of human emotion and computer analytics that the BCS provides always ensure that plenty of people will be talking about the outcome.

LSU, Alabama Remain on Top as SEC Dominates Latest BCS Poll

With only six days until their titanic clash in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide remained on top of the latest BCS standings, which were released on Sunday night. Despite not playing this week, they both remained ahead of an Oklahoma State Cowboys squad that destroyed Baylor on Saturday, but none of that matters now as what will arguably be the most hyped college football game in quite some time is really imminent.

Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd: 3rd or 4th Best Pro Prospect at Receiver?

michael floyd

There are some that would say that Michael Floyd wasn’t even the best receiver on the field on the evening Notre Dame took on USC. And Floyd failed to even surpass the thirty yard mark against the Trojans; which gave the critics more ammunition. Of course, he made up for it yesterday with a 120+ yards receiving and a touchdown versus Navy. Yeah, it’s Navy, but we know what issues the Irish have had with them lately.

Floyd will surpass the thousand yard mark for the second consecutive season. His ability to block down the field to create big plays for others will be vital in the NFL. His size is also coveted by general managers at the next level. Some others deserve to be mentioned in the conversation, but none surpass him in terms of potential.

Rapid Reaction: Oklahoma Has Crazy Second Half, Blows Out KSU

In a game that served as the first real test that the #8 Kansas State Wildcats have faced this year, they were found to be woefully lacking, as Landry Jones passed for 505 yards and the Oklahoma Sooners scored 44 unanswered points en route to a blistering 58-17 thrashing of KSU in Manhattan. Ryan Broyles had 14 catches for 171 yards and a score, and Jaz Reynolds caught two TD’s as well as the Sooners ended up with 690 yards of offense in the massive victory.

Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon: Top WR in Next NFL Draft

Justin Blackmon is a front-runner for the college football top wide receiver award (the Biletnikoff). The junior playing for the Oklahoma State Cowboys is also the top WR in this NFL Draft class. He’ll definitely come out this year, as he seems to be a top 5 pick this April.

In the scouts’ eyes, Blackmon is rated ahead of South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffery currently. Blackmon’s size and agility make him able to stretch out and corral any balls thrown anywhere near his vicinity.
