After losing eight of their last nine games, Illinois (17-14, 6-12) would have to pull out a miracle and win the Big Ten Tournament if they want to make the NCAA Tournament.

Wisconsin Badgers pick up signature win at Ohio State (Rapid Reaction)

After 29 games, the Wisconsin Badgers have finally picked up that signature win they were looking for.

Better late than never as Jordan Taylor and Jared Berggren’s combined 37 points helped the Badgers upset the #8 Ohio State Buckeyes by the score of 63-60.

With the loss, the Michigan State Spartans clinch at least a share of the Big Ten Title and Ohio State’s (23-6, 11-5) chances at a number one seed are now dashed. Meanwhile, the Badgers (21-8, 10-6) have most certainly enhanced their resume for the big dance.

“We’ve played two very good teams. Today, we needed to have the ability to sustain what we had going, which we didn’t do. We didn’t get the execution or the defensive stops that we needed,” Ohio State coach Thad Matta said of the loss.

Wisconsin Badgers still in the hunt for a Big Ten Title

A Bo Ryan-led Wisconsin Badgers squad will rarely impress you with pure talent, but that doesn’t mean they can’t win. The Badgers run one of the least sexy offenses in the country and play such fundamental defense that they almost lull opposing teams to sleep.

This season has been no different with the #22 Badgers checking in at 19-6 and 8-4 in the Big Ten Conference, just a game and a half back of the #3 Ohio State Buckeyes (21-3, 9-2).

One difference that has popped up this season is the Badgers solid play on the road. Did you know the Badgers have lost more games at home than on the road? With an overtime win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Wisconsin improved to 6-2 away from the Kohl Center.

With three of the next four games on the road, the Badgers hopes for a Big Ten Title will ride on continuing to compete outside the state-lines. [Read more…]

Badgers Ben Brust Leads the Way in Annual Red-White Scrimmage

A serious question facing the 2011-12 Badgers is whether or not they can replace the production from departing seniors Jon Leuer, Keaton Nankivil and Tim Jarmusz. In Sunday’s annual Red-White Scrimmage at the Kohl Center, part of that question was possibly answered.

Sophomore guard Ben Brust stepped up in a big way to score a game-high 22 points and lead the Red to a 72-56 win over the White squad who was led by preseason All-American Jordan Taylor.

“He can have a scoring frenzy at times. He did it last year at practice every once in a while. He’s quick with the ball and includes his teammates,” said Head Coach Bo Ryan of his young guard Brust. [Read more…]

Wisconsin Badgers Jordan Taylor Named to Final Five for Cousy Award

Earlier this season, the Wisconsin Badgers Jordan Taylor wasn’t even a Cousy Award Finalist until he was added after much controversy.

Funny how things change as the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame named Taylor to the final five on Thursday.

Taylor joins Cleveland State’s Norris Cole, BYU’s Jimmer Fredette, Duke’s Nolan Smith and Connecticut’s Kemba Walker as the final five candidates for the prestigious award given out to the nation’s top point guard.

“I’m humbled and honored to be on a list with these other great point guards,” said Taylor. “One of my high school coaches used to talk about Bob Cousy all the time and tell me how he was the greatest player ever. I’m sure he’d be proud that my name is in the same sentence as Bob Cousy. I know I am.” [Read more…]

Badgers Jordan Taylor Is the Key to Wisconsin’s Offense

At 16-5 and third in the Big Ten standings, the #18 Wisconsin Badgers have been one of the biggest surprises in all of college basketball. Back in November, a lot of analysts picked the Badgers to finish no better than seventh in one of the nation’s premier conferences.

With the graduation and departure of senior guards Trevon Hughes and Jason Bohannon, it was a mystery who would step in as the second scoring option beside player-of-the-year candidate Jon Leuer.

Enter Jordan Taylor who has not only evolved quite nicely into a second scoring option, but has also become a leader and key distributor in the Badgers offense.
