#1 North Carolina Tar Heels: College Basketball 111 in 111

north carolina cheerleaders

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

With all five starters back including the best frontcourt in the country, it is easy to see why North Carolina opens the season at #1 in our college hoops rankings.  The Tar Heels tip-off their campaign to cut down the nets this evening when they take on Michigan State as part of the Carrier Classic.  (By the way… HURRAH to me for making it… 111 team preview in 111 days!)

UNC Recruit James McAdoo Wins McDonald’s All-American Game MVP

james_mcadoo

With his 17 points on 8-13 shooting, future North Carolina Tar Heel James McAdoo shared co-MVP honors of the McDonald’s All-American Game with Kentucky recruit Michael Gilchrist.

“Just a dream come true, first and foremost just to be in the game, but I just went out there with the mindset to make shots and grab some rebounds,” McAdoo said.

From the looks of it, McAdoo will be a perfect fit at UNC. Especially, if he gets invited to UNC Chi Omega sorority formals, like current Heels Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Kendall Marshall.

(This is a Paul M. Banks and David Kay collaboration.)

99 in 99: #8 North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina cheerleaders

The North Carolina Tar Heels were once again playing for a championship in April.  Unfortunately, it was the NIT title.  UNC is coming off a very uncharacteristic season in which they missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time under Roy Williams.  The Heels will be a young team this season but do add the top freshman in the country, Harrison Barnes.

The Sports Bank’s “99 in 99” breaks down the 72 power conference college basketball teams and top 27 mid-majors.  Click here if you missed teams #9-#99.
