Ah NBA Draft night, when league commissioner David Stern introduces men tall enough to set drinks on his head to a nation of college basketball and Association fans.

It’s also the night that the formal dress code gets thrown out the window. Fashion week, it is not. Get ready for more futuristic, throw backs to the past, and just plain old UGLY threads to grace the stage on Thursday night.

Joakim Noah Derrick Rose

The Chicago Bulls have achieved great things up to now in the season and no one really knows how further they can get. LeBron James Joakim Noah

The discussion about the Defensive Player of the Year award has heated up since the All-Star break. It has changed a bit, too. After LeBron James stated that he should be the one to win the award this season, we have also seen Joakim Noah emerging a strong candidate. The Frenchman center has dramatically improved his performance during the second half of the season, especially on the defensive end of the floor. He is one of the biggest factors for the Chicago Bulls this season. Of course, Roy Hibbert still remains one of the top favorites for the title this season, as he has been playing extremely well on defense throughout the season. So who will eventually win the Defensive Player of the Year award? Who stands the biggest chances? Let’s break down.

Chicago Bulls: Time for a fire sale

Derrick Rose

Bill Murray and Derrick Rose have something in common now.

The Chicago Bulls are officially without Derrick Rose for the remainder of the 2013-14 season following surgery to repair a turn meniscus in his right knee. In hindsight, missing the season is probably the best. The timetable suggests that he had the meniscus repaired and reattached. A shorter expected recovery time would have meant that the surgery would have been to remove or partially remove the meniscus.

Another year is lost for a team seeing its championship window closing quickly. At this point it is shut, and changes should be, have to be made. There are numerous players that probably won’t fit into the team’s future plans and should be sold off to the highest bidder. The Chicago Bulls have to consider trading Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah. [Read more…]

joakim-noah

Joakim Noah (11 Pts,13 Reb,10 Ast) had his 2nd career triple-double to lead the Chicago Bulls to 100-89 win over the Boston Celtics last night. Chicago has won 8 of their last 11 with Noah leading the way in the absence of Derrick Rose. Noah now has 2 career triple-doubles; the last Bulls frontcourt player before him with a triple-double was Dennis Rodman in 1996.

Since March 2008 a center has recorded a triple-double with points, rebounds and assists twice. Both times it was Noah. Given the dearth of true centers in the game today, he really should be an All-Star.

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

His Adidas commercial portrays the scene pretty darn accurately as all of Chicago went silent when Derrick Rose clutched his knee in the first game of the Bulls’ opening round playoff series against the 76ers with the worst coming true; a torn ACL.  With Rose’s return questionable for this season, the Bulls must simply survive in hopes that their superstar can get back on the floor before the postseason begins.

What will the Chicago Bulls do on NBA Draft night?

luvabulls

Winning 50 games in the lockout shortened season of 2011-12 was a major accomplishment for the Chicago Bulls.  However, all that excitement and hopefulness of re-claiming the Larry O’Brien Trophy came crashing down with one injury to Derrick Rose.  Unfortunately, that’s how the Bulls 2011-12 season will be remembered. Being the best regular season team in the NBA went all for not, as the Bulls suffered that very rare #8 over #1 upset to the Philadelphia 76ers.

And that ACL injury to Rose that cost them the first round playoff series also has major consequence on what happens next season; meaning it’s the number point to center around what they do in the offseason, and on NBA Draft night.
