What is the Chicago Bears Biggest Need?

Needs

It seems like such a simple question, but no one can provide a definitive answer.

In free agency, the Bears did quite a bit in terms of addressing some of their most glaring needs. The offensive tackle, tight end, and linebacker positions were all upgraded.

But with the NFL Draft less than a week away, predictions are still all over the board for who the Bears may take with the 20th selection.

In my opinion, this is a two-horse race: offensive lineman, or linebacker. Apparently, most draft experts don’t agree with me.

Chicago Bears Free Agency Analysis and Predictions

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants

Well, that escalated quickly.

GM Phil Emery followed up his amazing opening act last season with an equally impressive performance in the first few hours of this year’s free agency period.

About 60 minutes after the opening bell, former Giants tight end Martellus Bennett was watching the ink dry on his new four-year deal with the Bears. The terms of Bennett’s contract have not yet been disclosed.

A few hours later, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that former Saints Pro Bowl left tackle Jermon Bushrod would be joining Bennett in the Windy City on a five-year, $36 million deal, making him the highest paid offensive lineman in team history. [Read more…]

Chicago Bears 2013 potential offseason moves

Phil_Emery

It’s never too soon to think about how the Bears can improve for next season. I have some suggestions for GM Phil Emery.

I think with 2 key moves in the offseason, the Bears can find themselves on the right side of lopsided final scores like we saw in Jacksonville, only against much better opponents than the Jaguars.

Let Jay Cutler Be

The way Jay shows emotions may not rub everyone the right way, but if it works for him, we need to stop giving him grief about it.

The Chicago Bears are feeling the pressure of the national spotlight

Jay Cutler’s expression in this picture is all you need to know about the state of the Bears this week.

If there is one thing everyone seeks in life, it’s respect. The Bears have had the respect of Chicagoans for years.

But many fans like myself have found it baffling that year in and year out, the Bears would get no respect or media attention nationally. Maybe that has something to do with only 3 playoff trips in Lovie Smith’s tenure (9 years).

Jay Cutler’s Emotional Outbursts: Misinterpreted or Misguided?

Jay-Cutler

Were Jay’s confrontations with his linemen warranted, or did he cross the line?

Chicago Bears Training Camp Position Battles: Offensive Line

J'Marcus Webb

Much like the wide receiving corps, the Bear’s offensive line has been a enigma for years. But unlike the receiving corps, no major moves were made in the offseason to improve the unit.

I was in the school of thought that the best move the Bears could make, outside of signing a Pro-Bowl caliber o-lineman, would be to stand pat and let the current players grow together.

But a 31-3 loss in the preseason opener with most of the blame falling on the offensive line seems to rebut that thought with a resounding “think again”.

What Gabe Carimi Brings to the Chicago Bears

On Thursday, the Chicago Bears addressed their greatest need when drafting Wisconsin’s offensive lineman Gabe Carimi with their first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Bears gave up a disgusting 56 sacks (tops in the league) and ended up with a bruised and battered Jay Cutler when it was all said and done last season.

Let me tell you why and how Carimi can upgrade one of the worst offensive lines in all of football.
