Jimmer Fredette signs with the Chicago Bulls

Jimmer Fredette won the 2010-11 Oscar Robertson Trophy, annually presented to the National Player of the Year in college basketball. Drafted by the Sacramento Kings, he never quite fit in there. Jimmer is an undersized shooting guard who doesn’t have the skill set to play the one. The Kings released him, and now the Chicago Bulls have signed him.

Both the Chicago Tribune and USA Today are mong the multiple sources reporting this. Fredette has cleared waivers and he is en route to joining the team.

Jimmer Fredette Gets Candid, Increases NBA Draft Stock (Video)

Jimmer Fredette was the National Player of the Year in college basketball. Jimmer’s amazing season inspired “Jimmermania” which in turn led to the usage of the term Jimmer as a verb and a metaphor for greatness.

He also inspired the greatest Sports Illustrated cover ever. And then his team was eliminated in the very next game, once again giving more credibility to the “SI Cover Jinx” idea.

I guess this means the BYU Cougars will be eliminated in a few hours at the hands of the Florida Gators. That is if you believe in the Sports Illustrated cover jinx. Jimmer-Mania Hits New Orleans NCAA Regional: BYU vs. Florida Preview

He started out as an unknown his freshman and sophomore year. People began to recognize his name after a clutch performance in the NCAA first round last season and now he’s the hottest topic in college basketball.

Jimmer Fredette, the 6’2″ shooting guard for Brigham Young University, has wowed the crowds all year long with his 30-foot three pointers and night in, night out he makes plays that leave opposing players shaking their heads in disbelief.

Now, he leads BYU into the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1981 where they will meet the Florida Gators, a team they defeated last year in a classic first round double overtime contest.

BYU Final Four Chances dealt Severe Blow with Honor Code Violation

Just when the BYU Cougars had played themselves right into that top line of college basketball seeding, this happens. One of Jimmer Fredette’s top running mates, forward Brandon Davies, is suspended for the rest of the season due to a violation of the school’s honor code.

This is a huge blow to their Final Four hopes.

Bracket Breakdown: West Regional

Synopsis
For some reason, Syracuse just dropped below Duke and earned the fourth #1 seed in the tournament pitting the West Regional against the Midwest Regional in the Final Four.  Jim Boeheim has said injured center Arinze Onuaku is NOT expected to play during the first rounds which makes the ‘Cuse more vulnerable.  If they survive and Onuaku is back for the second weekend, the Orange are definitely the team to beat.  Other than that, there is really nothing surprising about this bracket as most of the seeds went to teams deserving of that spot (except maybe Florida’s 10-seed which was certainly a bit eye-raising when it was announced.)
