UConn’s Jeremy Lamb: NBA Lottery bound? (video)

jeremy lamb uconn

UConn’s Jeremy Lamb figures to be a late lottery to mid first round pick in the NBA Draft next week. Here’s a summary from our scouting report on Lamb.

Though streaky and inconsistent at times, Lamb will likely be the first shooting guard to come off the board on draft night. He possesses a capable all-around offensive attack and is a gifted athlete with terrific length. Lamb should fall somewhere in the mid-late lottery depending on team needs.

UConn’s Nightmare Year Continues; Huskies ineligible for 2013 NCAA Tournament

Just one year ago, the UConn men’s basketball team was celebrating a national championship, the ultimate culmination for a team that underwent a huge transformation at the end of the regular season, going from mediocre to interesting to, “wow, is Kemba Walker really good enough to singlehandedly lead this team to a national championship?” The Huskies answered that question with an emphatic yes, but the celebratory days of Kemba-madness appear long-gone now.

The  NCAA informed the Huskies Thursday night that it had turned down their latest appeal to be eligible for the 2013 postseason. UConn was ruled ineligible because of several years of sub-standard  Academic Progress Rate scores. Its waiver request was based upon the claim that its academic scores have improved over the last two seasons. Although its appeal was denied, the school will still try to become eligible by forcing a rule change whereby the recently improved test scores would be accepted. Such efforts are unlikely to be successful.

#4 UConn Huskies: College Basketball 111 in 111

uconn huskies cheerleaders

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

The UConn Huskies are coming off a year in which they put together one of the most memorable post-season runs in college basketball history.  They won five games in five days to claim the Big East Tournament Title and didn’t cool off once the NCAA Tournament began, cutting down the nets in Houston.  Even though Jim Calhoun loses the heart and soul of his team, Kemba Walker, the early arrival of Andre Drummond will once again make UConn a national title contender.

Big East Basketball Power Rankings (1/18/11)

In my most recent bracketology, 11 Big East teams made the NCAA Tournament projections.  It is not a crazy thought right now especially since nine teams are ranked in the AP Top 25.  Of course, once the season plays out and teams start to beat up on each other, a couple of those teams will struggle and take themselves out of the conversation like happens every year.  Here are my updated power rankings with Pitt holding onto the top spot after winning the battle of unbeatens last night versus Syracuse.
