Aaron Rodgers and the Packers roll the terrible Tennessee Titans

Aaron Rodgers vs. Titans

Earlier in the season, it would have been appropriate to point out how the Green Bay Packers play down to lesser competition in close wins over the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars at home.

Can’t say that now though as the Packers (11-4) steam-rolled the Titans to the tune of 55-7.

Aaron Rodgers was responsible for four of the touchdowns, throwing three and rushing for another.

Can the Packers avoid looking past the Tennessee Titans?

Packers team photo

Fresh off a significant division-clinching win over the rival Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers have their eyes set on a possible first round bye and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

Before they can start thinking about those amenities, they first must host and beat the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans enter the game as huge underdogs and will be highly motivated to sneak up on Green Bay and play a spoiler to one of the NFC’s Super Bowl hopefuls. [Read more…]

Indianapolis Colts could make push for division title with win at Houston

The Indianapolis Colts have exceeded even the wildest of expectations this season.

The departure of Peyton Manning? A rookie quarterback and a young roster overall, working against a salary cap strapped with dead money? The Colts’ task was daunting entering the season.

And then, three weeks in, the team’s new head coach, Chuck Pagano, was diagnosed with leukemia and would miss most of the season while undergoing treatment (Pagano is in remission and could return to the sideline Dec. 30).

Anyone would have understood if this young squad had won just four games, and five or six wins would have been considered good given the circumstances.

But no. These “ChuckStrong” Colts (9-4) remarkably have showed grit and determination late in games, led by their sensational signal-caller, Andrew Luck; they amazingly stand one win away from clinching a playoff spot and control their own destiny for the AFC South title, the first of two crucial matchups with the Houston Texans (11-2) occurring at 1 p.m. today at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Chicago Bears Season Outlook: 2nd Quarter

Maurice Jones-Drew

Can MJD be the undoing of the Chicago Bear’s entire season?

According to my own sound reasoning, the Bears will either be 3-1 or 2-2 heading into the 2nd quarter of the 2012 NFL season. All things considered, 2-2 isn’t exactly reason for panic.

Luckily for the Bears, sandwiched between games 5 thru 8 is their bye week in week 6. And the next quartet of opponents appears to be a less daunting bunch… on paper.

But the Jaguars, Lions, Panthers and Titans will all be looking to show the Bears why the game isn’t played on paper.

Tennessee Titans 2012 Fantasy Preview

The Tennessee Titans may have been the most average team in the NFL last season while finishing 9-7 in a rather lackluster AFC South Division. Head Coach Mike Munchak leads a young and dynamic offense which has fans and critics wondering if they have enough experience to make a run at the division.

Here are the guys in Tennessee that you should have on your list come time to do the fantasy draft. [Read more…]

Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez Continues Throwing Progression

Taylor Martinez

While college students across the nation were enjoying a week-long break from the pressures of schoolwork, Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez was doing something quite different.

The quarterback, instead of relaxing at the beach, went back home to California and used the time to work on his throwing.

Talk about commitment.

Martinez worked for three days with quarterback coach Steve Calhoun, a man who runs a quarterback development camp called Armed and Dangerous Football Camp and can count Cam Newton and Jake Locker among his former students.

Martinez praised the three days with Calhoun as a wonderful learning experience, but if there was one lesson to be taken from their work, it was a simple, yet important message: improve footwork. [Read more…]

Indianapolis Colts Avoid Winless Season, Won’t Play Peyton Manning

The Indianapolis Colts won’t go 0-16. We know that much.

The Colts’ 27-13 victory against division rival Tennessee on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium — Indy’s first win of the 2011 season — prevented the franchise from going down in NFL history with the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the 2008 Detroit Lions, the only two teams to ever finish a season without a win.

But beyond the relief of finally breaking through for a win, the Colts still face some questions as they prepare to close out the final two weeks of 2011. Vice Chairman Bill Polian announced after the game that quarterback Peyton Manning would not appear in either of Indy’s last two games against Houston and Jacksonville. Also — believe it or not — there’s a legitimate race in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes again.

Will Jake Locker be Titans Opening Day QB?

titans

The Tennessee Titans made a pretty bold move when they drafted 22-year-old quarterback Jake Locker out of Washington with the eighth pick overall at the recent NFL draft. They may make an even bolder one by starting him on opening day of the 2011 season. Locker’s the Titans’ highest draft choice since quarterback Vince Young was taken third overall back in 2006. Young’s days look to be over in Tennessee though as the club plans on releasing or trading him.
