Houston Rockets Star Players

It only took 11 games for the Houston Rockets to go from championship contenders to Western Conference also-rans. After a 4-7 start, head coach Kevin McHale was fired. Never mind the four-year contract extension he received last season, or the fact that he had the highest winning percentage in franchise history. The Houston Rockets lost their first three games by an average of 20 points.

The day before McHale was sent packing, the team held a players-only meeting.

The Houston Rockets are fools for signing Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin

I hate to rain on anyone’s parade, but this is what America has become today. After over 200-plus years of work, this is what America has accepted. Rewarding mediocrity is something that ruins sports franchises, businesses and America. [Read more…]

Cavaliers Owner Sends Whiny Email to NBA Over CP3 Lakers Trade

CLEVELAND-CAVALIERS-LOGO

You recall Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert from the night of Lebron James’ “The Decison” correct? The man who made his fortune by exploiting poor people and giving out house loans to the homeless (CEO of Quicken Loans) embarrassed himself that evening with an extremely bitter letter to LBJ.

The comic sans font he used put the unintentional comedy of the situation off the charts. Gilbert is back with another too whiny for a powerful billionaire missive.

Gilbert called the New Orleans Hornets’ now nullified trade of Chris Paul to the L.A. Lakers a “travesty,” and urged NBA commissioner David Stern to let the league’s 29 owners vote on it. an

Already? Stern, NBA Step in it by Nullifying Chris Paul Lakers Trade

On a sports day that had been dominated by news of Albert Pujols leaving the St. Louis Cardinals to head to Anaheim and the Angels, one could have reasonably expected a good night’s rest and relaxation. Instead, sports writers had to put on the coffee and gear up for another huge story, because the New Orleans Hornets stunned the basketball world and dealt star point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The deal would have involved the Houston Rockets as well, and would have sent Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, Houston’s 2012 1st Round pick (acquired from the Knicks) and Lamar Odom to the Hornets. The Rockets would have acquired Pau Gasol as part of the trade, but the Lakers obviously would have made out like bandits by both keeping Andrew Bynum and acquiring Paul.

As you surely noticed, there are a lot of “would have’s” in that paragraph. And that’s because the NBA stepped in and nullified the trade.

ralph sampson III

Minnesota Golden Gophers Coach Tubby Smith has seen drastic, if not dramatic improvements in the game of senior Center Ralph Sampson III.

“His consistency, his numbers have improved each year. They haven’t been leaps and bounds, but I think a lot of it has to do with Ralph getting in better shape, not that he hasn’t worked at it, but he’s had to focus on learning to breathe properly, I don’t know if he had asthma or another type of breathing disorder, but he’s got that under control better, and his stamina and strength are two issues he’s done a good job of addressing this summer and fall,” Sampson’s coach Tubby Smith said.

Rockets cheerleaders

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank continues to break down all thirty NBA teams to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.

The Houston Rockets have already tackled one task by hiring Kevin McHale as their new head coach.  That is just the beginning though as the team faces a huge question about Yao Ming‘s future as they look to up-grade their roster and get back into the NBA Playoffs.
