Ron Gardenhire: Award And Extension Are Much Deserved

Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire recently was presented the honor of American League Manager Of The Year. He edged out Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers, despite falling to the Yankees in the divisional series of the playoffs. It is obviously a commendation for his performance during the regular season, when he transitioned from the biggest home field advantage in all of Major League Baseball to unfamiliar surroundings in Target Field.

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty declared November 22nd to be Ron Gardenhire Day in the state.

Should Gardenhire have pulled Kevin Slowey from his no-hit bid?

The first place Minnesota Twins are in the midst of their perennial quest to capture the Central Division of the American League. As you may have noticed Sunday, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire took Kevin Slowey out of the game after 106 pitches; and before he had given up a hit.

Jon Rauch promptly entered the game and gave up a base hit squashing any hopes that remained for a combined no-hitter. What follows are some pros and cons stemming from Gardenhire’s tactic.
