Evan Turnover? TOs and Strength Turner’s Weaknesses

evan turner

I truly was blessed this past season and post-season to have had the opportunity to closely cover college basketball’s most decorated player in Ohio State’s Evan Turner. “His Royal Smoothness” as we like to call him, won the Wooden, the Naismith and pretty much every other national college basketball player of the year award. We all know how good he is; he’ll be the second guy picked by Philadelphia in this June’s NBA Draft after John Wall goes first overall to Washington.

We’ve already heard all about his many strengths. And he could very well be the next Scottie Pippen, but he’s still far from perfect. As transcendent as his game seems at times, there are still some flaws.

evan turner

No big surprise here-

Evan Turner, the consensus national player of the year in men’s basketball, has been named the 2009-10 Ohio State Male Athlete of the Year, the department of athletics announced Thursday. Turner swept the 2010 college basketball season player of the year awards after claiming the Naismith Trophy and John R. Wooden Award, as well as the USBWA, Associated Press and NABC POY awards. The junior guard also was the Big Ten Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player at the annual Big Ten Tournament, which the Buckeyes captured with a win over Minnesota.

He’s also passed up Erin Andrews, Adam Burish, Tom Izzo, Bruce Weber and Ozzie Guillen to easily become the most written about individual in The Sports Bank history.

Evan Turner’s The Next Big Ten Thing

By: David Kay

From the first day I saw Tyreke Evans play in the McDonald’s All-American game, I knew he was going to be a special player.  (This is only about the 982,074th time I’ve said this.)  Now that Evans is in the NBA, I need to find a new college hoops player to whore over.  Enter Evan Turner.

The Ohio State junior has the complete game and is the leading to candidate to have my utmost approval as the next star to be entering the association.  His is a stat sheet stuffer who averaged 17.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.  Plus he shot 50% from the field, 79% from the free thrown line, and 44% from three.  In other words, he is pretty good.

Click here for more why I am in love with Turner’s game.
