Duke basketball ignored Rasheed Sulaimon sexual assault allegations

rasheed-sulaimon

Five-star guard signee Rasheed Sulaimon was the first player to be kicked off the Duke basketball team during the Mike Krzyzewski era. In the 35 years of Coach K, Sulaimon, dismissed on January 29th, is the first and only player to get kicked out.

Today, we found out why. And it’s a more serious issue than the cliche corporatspeak phrase “violation of team rules” that every single college sports information department uses

UPDATED 2013-2014 preseason top 25 college basketball rankings

With the Louisville Cardinals cutting down the nets, the book was officially closed on the 2012-2013 college basketball season.  Hoop junkies like myself are already looking ahead to next season so allow me to present to you my updated way too early 2012-2013 preseason Top 25 college basketball rankings.

So here is my preliminary preseason Top 25 college basketball rankings for next season.  I have updated these rankings since the NBA Draft early entries list is complete and a number of transfers have since been announced.  There is still one major x-factor out there, the undecided Andrew Wiggins who is the #1 prospect in the 2013 class.  Leave a comment below if you think a team is too high, too low, not getting enough respect, or if you notice an error in a projected roster.  (Click here to see how my 2012-13 way too early preseason college basketball rankings turned out.)

2012 Big Ten/ACC Challenge Preview and Predictions

big ten/acc challenge

The twelve-game Big Ten/ACC Challenge tips off tonight with the top four ranked teams in the nation; Duke, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio State all in action.  After losing the first ten challenges, the Big Ten looks for their fourth straight win in this battle of power conferences.  To be completely blunt; they should have zero problem doing so as the Big Ten has far more depth than the ACC.

battle 4 atlantis logo

The 2012 Battle 4 Atlantis college basketball tournament tips off Thursday and is STACKED with six top 25 teams including Final Four contenders Louisville, Duke, and Missouri.  Too bad half the games are being shown on something called AXS TV while the others will be seen on NBC Sports Network (which isn’t offered to me on DirecTV even though I upgraded to the sports tier package, lame.)  Regardless, here is a preview and my predictions for how things will shake out in the Bahamas.

Here is the official bracket for the 2012 Battle 4 Atlantis.

#12 Duke Blue Devils: College Basketball 111 in 111

coach k

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Here’s a major reach of a statement; The Duke Blue Devils are going to be good this year.  (Although they were good last year and shocked in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament by 15 seed Lehigh.)  Do they have enough talent to be a true title contender though?  I just don’t see it.

Duke’s Austin Rivers has great guidance for NBA transition (Video)

austin rivers duke

As you obviously know, former Duke Blue Devils guard Austin Rivers is the son of former NBA point guard and current Boston Celtics coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers. As such, Austin will be better prepared for the transition to the NBA life than other league prospects. As you might expect, the topic of his Dad came up quite a bit at the combine

The Sports Bank’s Ngozi Ekeledo stopped by the 2012 NBA Draft Combine’s Media Day and talked to the Duke star about getting a little help and advice from his famous NBA father.
