The 10 Worst NBA Drafts in the Lottery Era

The calendar now reads June. In the NBA that means it’s time to crown an NBA Champion. However among the biggest of NBA nerds, it also means it’s time to get ready for the NBA draft. We’re only two weeks and a few hours away from the 2011 NBA Draft. This year, it’s preparing for the likes of Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter and Brandon Knight to join the greatest basketball league on the planet that has us basketball geeks totally psyched.

Wait, what?

2011 NBA Draft Wrap Up

nba draft

The days after the NBA Draft for me are like the days following the NCAA Tournament Championship Game; filled with a little bit of sadness, emptiness, and a whole lot of “what the heck am I going to do with my free time now?”  So before we put the 2011 NBA Draft to rest and melancholy and infinite sadness sets in, here is a wrap up.

The Minnesota Timberwolves 2011 Draft Recap

Entering the 2011 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves had arguably more speculation and rumors than any other team in the league.

Would they trade the second pick? Would they keep the second pick? And if so would they take Arizona’s Derrick Williams, or reach on Kentucky (via Turkey) center Enes Kanter?

Other than Marquette and Wisconsin, I have watched more Arizona Wildcat games in the past two seasons than any other team.  (And remember, I have watched more than 900 college basketball games in the past three years.)  Seeing Derrick Williams‘ meteoric rise on NBA Draft boards during that time has been rather remarkable.  And now, barring a crazy trade or some dumb David Kahn decision, Williams will be one of the top two picks in Thursday’s 2011 NBA Draft.

nba draft lottery

With the NBA Draft now five days away, it is time to break out my second 2011 NBA Draft mailbag in which I answer some of your e-mails or comments.  In this edition, we talk Alec Burks, Enes Kanter, Brandon Knight, Isaiah Thomas, whether the Cavs would be smart to not draft Kyrie Irving, and compare the top of this draft class to year’s past.

If you have a question about the draft or my 2011 NBA Mock Draft, leave a comment at the bottom of this page and I will try to get to it in my next mailbag (I plan on doing one every day during the draft week.)  Go here to check out my previous mailbag.

Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2011 NBA Draft Options

It was assumed that the Minnesota Timberwolves would struggle this season. But with those struggles would come improvement from a season ago.

Early on the Wolves weren’t a good team, but they were at least fun to watch as there was always an abundance of energy.

Now the Wolves look like they’ve checked out, and taken leaps backwards from the progression they showed in December.

While much of that blame can go on the shoulders of head coach Kurt Rambis, for the sake of this blog I will chalk it up to a lack of talent.

With the Wolves on the cusp of receiving a top five pick in next June’s draft, these are the five options that Wolves will have in the draft.

Kyrie Irving, PG, Duke, 6’1’’, 19.
