The Derrick Rose Greatest Hits Collection

What a magical season it has been for the Chicago Bulls, who secured the best overall record in the entire league. And what a 2010-11 it’s been for Derrick Rose, who has become the man-crush of the third largest city in the United States. He is to “us” what pre-2008 Brett Favre was to the entire state of Wisconsin. To quote “Zoolander”….”Hansel- he’s just so hot right now,” perfectly describes Rose’s current Q rating.

Rose made headlines this NBA preseason for saying “why can’t I be the MVP? Why can’t I become the best player in the league?” I was there at Media Day when he said it, and I didn’t understand why everyone made such a big deal out of it. It’s not news-worthy; if you’ve paid close attention to Rose’s talent and ambition, you would have seen his natural progression to this stage. It’s what #1 overall NBA Draft picks are supposed to do.

I’ve been covering Rose’s games and writing about his career extensively these past three years; so the MVP season is no surprise.

With the playoff series versus the Indiana Pacers set to tip off, it’s perfect time to reflect on his greatest hits.

NBA MVPs Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant Possibly Headed to Play Overseas?

kobe bryant-derrick rose

Did you hear that? It’s the sound of NBA appeal and influence in this country falling hard to the floor. Due to the ongoing labor crisis, the league cancelled a big chunk of preseason games last week. Within another few days, it’ll probably be time to cancel the rest of the preseason. And you know what comes after that…casualties in the regular season, and with it, an erosion of all that added interest the league obtained from people who tuned in strictly for the purpose of hating Lebron James and the Miami Heat.

The damage could get a lot worse before it gets better. The winners of the league’s 2008 and 2011 MVP awards may be bolting the homeland to play overseas. Both Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers told the media today that it could happen.

Chicago Bulls Biggest Issue: Balanced Offense through Drive & Kick

derrick rose bulls

Knowing that the primary strength in NBA MVP Derrick Rose’s game is penetrating the lane, you the Bulls fan may watch game five yelling at the tv, telling Rose to echo Rihanna’s famous 2007 hit song:  “Shut up and Drive.

You might point to the fact that his three point game has only really been on once (game three Friday night) in the entire playoffs so far as further proof he should just play “fast don’t lie” to the hole as much as possible.

But that’s not the answer. The key is for Rose is to lead the drive-and-kick came whenever he can, and be the greatest distributor possible.

“I want him to read the defense, so if they’re sagging into the paint, and he’s open I want him to shoot,” Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau said.

“We want to attack better in transition, play with more pace, and in those situations, when the floor’s open he has the opportunity to drive more. He has to score a number of different ways and run the team,” Coach Thibs continued.

Bulls TV Analyst Kendall Gill breaks down Free Agency Prospects

kendall-gill-bulls

The NBA free agency season has just begun, and trust me- it will be a hundred times more interesting and exciting than last year’s NBA regular season. I say that without hyperbole.

And if you don’t believe me check out these tweets from Chris Bosh himself, the third most sought after free agent in this class. Bosh posted them right before: “I’ve been watching this clock and it won’t speed up!”

and after: “The time is finally here. Thank you for all the support. I’m nervous, but I’m excited and READY! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!!!” open season officially commenced.

And the Chicago Bulls are premier players in this free agency period. Former Bull Kendall Gill was added to Comcast SportsNet’s studio coverage of the Chicago Bulls as analyst prior to the ‘06-‘07 season. He also serves as college basketball analyst for the Big Ten Network.

I recently had an exclusive with Gill where we talked Bulls free agency prospects.
