Deron Williams has gotten a lot of bad press lately. With the firing of Brooklyn Nets coach Avery Johnson, he garnered a reputation as a coach killer/diva. But here’s some more Williams news that isn’t bad PR.

The freshly-launched NBA Baller Beats (the first ever motion-based sports video game using a real basketball in an interactive beats-driven experience) exclusively on Kinect for Xbox 360 ($39.99; 29.99 at Walmart).

Nets Deron Williams: more diva than superstar these days?

Deron-Williams

With the Brooklyn Nets firing their head coach Avery Johnson yesterday, point guard Deron Williams saw his reputation as a coach killer increase. First there was Williams’ influence forcing legendary leader Jerry Sloan into retirement, and now the Johnson situation. Williams now seems like a NBA version of Steve Buscemi’s character in “Billy Madison” who had a “people to kill” list. Except for coaches.

Johnson was Coach of the month in October and November, yet canned in December. A 10-4 start raised expectations (which were already sky high to begin with due to the new arena, new uniforms and a lot of money spent on free agency), then Brook Lopez got hurt and the losing began, turning them into a .500 team.

And Deron likely complained about the play-calling, and had input into this outcome, even though the real decision came from the rich Russian upstairs. But is Deron still the star he once was? And is he worth it for teams to bend over backwards for?

As the grizzly voiced manager in Major League once stated, “It’s starting to come together, Pepper.”  The Nets gambles of acquiring Gerald Wallace, Joe Johnson, and Williams in the past 17 months have certainly paid of as Brooklyn now has it’s own semi-Big 3.

The New Jersey Nets… err… Brooklyn Nets will have a new home next season, moving across the Hudson River to their new home at the Barclays Center.  As the franchise enters a new era, they have plenty of question marks regarding their roster.  Priority number one this off-season for the Nets will be re-signing their star point guard, Deron Williams.

Deron Williams scores Nets franchise record 57 on Bobcats

Much like the night he dropped 38 on Jeremy Lin during the height of Linsanity, Deron Williams made a statement with his game. He put the point in point guard. I think D. Will has had enough with this Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul are the best point guards in the league talk.

Deron Williams scored a franchise-record 57 points to bring the New Jersey Nets to a 104-101 victory over the woeful Charlotte Bobcats last night. He entered the game averaging 21.7 ppg, but went 16-29 from the field and a perfect 21-21 from the free-throw line.

Utah Jazz Made Wise Decision in Dealing Deron Williams to Nets

Deron Williams Nets

After failing on their attempt to lure Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, the Nets moved quickly to plan B by acquiring Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz in exchange for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, a 2011 first round pick, a conditional future first rounder.  For Utah, the time was now to deal D-Will while new Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov finally lands the superstar he has coveted since taking control of the franchise, but certainly not the best point guard in the NBA.
