Danica Patrick now competing in October Sprint Cup race

danica-patrick

Danica Patrick has decided to compete in the Oct. 21st Hollywood Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the newly re-paved Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.

Competing in the race will give Patrick an extra day of practice, scheduled for the Thursday before the race weekend due to the 1.5-mile oval being resurfaced since the Sprint Cup Series race just this past April.

“With the testing rules the way they are, we can’t test with her at tracks where NASCAR’s top three series compete,” said Greg Zipadelli, Stewart-Haas Racing competition director and race strategist for Patrick. “That extra day of testing will be huge for her. With the amount of 1.5-mile ovals on the schedule, it made sense to have her compete at Kansas to better prepare her for 2013.”

Danica Patrick discusses adjustment from IndyCar to NASCAR

danica-patrick

Danica Patrick appeared with fellow NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Justin Allgaier at Chicago’s Oak Street Beach a couple days ago.

The Roscoe, Illinois native left open wheel racing for stock car racing this year, and talked about some of the differences between the two, and the adjustment in general.

“Leaving IndyCar and the difference between being part time and full time, it just helps every weekend, I’m able to work on things more diligently, and then see improvements instead of having to wait a month to try something new,” Patrick said.

“I’ve always said that the tracks are so much different from IndyCar perspective to a NASCAR perspective. In IndyCar we’re able to run right along the bottom, and in NASCAR you have to more a traditional line, it’s not flat out like it was in those IndyCar days.”

Danica Patrick finishes 31st at Darlington

While the result shows Danica Patrick finished 31st in the Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Saturday night at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, the valuable experience she gained can’t be summed up in a box score.

Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet Impala for Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) via a collaborative agreement with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), had never seen the 1.336-mile oval until last Thursday. But she had heard plenty of stories about the treacherous egg-shaped oval and its knack for being difficult for even the most veteran drivers.

Saturday night, “The Lady in Green,” Danica Patrick, driver of the green No.10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet, will meet “The Lady in Black” for the very first time when she competes in the Bojangles’ Southern 500 Sprint Cup race at Darlington.

Patrick, who has never been to Darlington, will also compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Friday night at the 1.366-mile oval before competing in just her second-ever Sprint Cup race the next night.
