Indianapolis Colts — And Fans — Need to Prove Themselves Against Pittsburgh

After two bad losses to open the 2011 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts are close to confirming everyone’s worst fears about the team without Peyton Manning.

Tonight’s prime-time matchup with the defending AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) at Lucas Oil Stadium can either establish one and for all that the Colts can’t contend without their four-time MVP starting quarterback, or it can be a proving ground for them to show that they can.

But the Colts aren’t the only ones who have something to prove at tonight’s game. Colts fans do, too.

It’s No Surprise Indiana Pacers Avoided Sweep

It just seemed right.

The Indiana Pacers finally closed the deal — albeit after blowing another double-digit lead late — and beat the Chicago Bulls 88-84 Saturday at United, err, Conseco Fieldhouse to avoid being swept in the first round of the NBA playoffs and force Game 5 in Chicago on Tuesday.

That these feisty, pesky Pacers broke through and will live to fight another day is only fitting.

Indiana Pacers on Brink of Elimination in Game 4 vs. Chicago Bulls

So here they are.

After Thursday’s 88-84 loss in Game 3 of the Indiana Pacers’ first-round NBA playoff matchup with the Chicago Bulls, the eighth-seeded team in the Eastern Conference now stands somewhere it hasn’t reached this late in the season since 2006: on the brink of elimination.

Game 4 tips off at 2:30 p.m. ET today at Conseco Fieldhouse, and the top-seeded Bulls have a chance to put away a Pacers team that has given them fits throughout the series but hasn’t been able to finish.

Big 10 Tournament Preview and Predictions

ohio state cheerleader

As mediocre as the Big Ten has looked this season (and a major reason why it looks so mediocre is because expectations were sky-high in October) that big muddled middle mush should make for an exciting conference tournament. There really is very little difference between seeds 4-7.

And the league is indicative of college basketball at large this season. When the brackets are set you’ll see not a big difference between seedings 1-3 in all four regionals. You call it parity now; but it will result in a very exciting tournament later. Both in Indianapolis this week, and around the nation the following week.
