West Virginia to Replace Missouri in Big 12

The carousel keeps moving in college football conference expansion and relocation. Today it leaked that the West Virginia Mountaineers have been approved to replace Missouri Tigers in the Big 12 conference. The conference board of directors approved the move to take place once the Mizzou move to the SEC is complete.

WVU leaving the Big East obviously leaves an already very weak football conference to become even weaker. The Big East is already reeling from the loss of TCU, Syracuse and UConn. The Mountaineers over the Tigers probably means a push in football, but an upgrade in college basketball.

Big East On The Way To Becoming Hoops Only Conference?

With Syracuse and Pitt selling out and heading to the ACC, the Big East is in serious jeopardy of disbanding as a football conference; especially if the rumors are true that UConn and Rutgers will soon follow suit.  With football being at the forefront of these super conference realignments, the most competitive basketball conference in the country is losing elite programs, but could still survive as a hoops only league.

Texas A&M to SEC: What it Means for College Basketball

This rash of realignment in college athletics all revolves around college footballNebraska to the Big Ten, TCU to the Big East, Colorado and Utah to the Pac-12; these moves benefit the action on the gridiron but water down the college hoops scene.  With Texas A&M moving to the SEC, there will be another domino effect in how the major conferences look and as a result, more shakeup on the hardwood.
