One college football team likely to enter the national rankings this week is the Arizona State Sun Devils. Who announced their presence with authority Friday night in an exciting overtime victory over #21 Missouri. It was a spirited home night game as the team showed off their new intimidating black uniforms and helmets.

No more cartoonish logo, their “all in” with intimidation and a fresh new look. See their “Fear the Fork” marketing campaign. The fans were instructed to dress in all black too. ESPN (likely mistakenly) showed some fans in black face paint. (I guess they were going for the Al Jolson look?). And black in the summertime in the desert? Well, it was a night game.

“It looks like heaven’s easier to get into than Arizona State,” said Ned Flanders in one of The Simpsons’ greatest lines. But I kid ASU, I kid the educational standards. We’re not here to discuss that; or the armies of ridiculous hotties that attend this party school of party schools. Hey, there’s a reason Tosh.O picked Tempe for the campus invasion. You can see from the cheerleader pics in this post, or the video here where all the hotties brutally make fun of the 90 year-old-man who invaded their tailgate, that the ASU ladies are as scorching as the July high temperatures on campus.

But enough of this silliness, let’s talk college football.

College Football 77 in 77: #48 Boston College Eagles

Boston College basketball

The Boston College Eagles have been bowling every year since 1998. That’s an impressive streak for this age in college football. Or at least it seems that way, because this program has been rather overlooked lately. B.C. is essentially offensive tackle U. given the large number of large men they send to the NFL, and they’ve produced some great quarterbacks. However, other than the Doug Flutie Hail Mary in the ’80s, and the big win over their hated rival and fellow Catholics Notre Dame in the 1990s, what has B.C. Eagles football really done?

Quiet consistency, that’s what. And it looks like they’ll keep the bowl appearance streak going again in 2011. It’s “more than a feeling” that Boston will figure out their issues on offense this year and return to the postseason.
