Awards shows are self-congratulatory industry bacchanalia that we play voyeur to because we love watching rich and famous people be rich and famous and pretend to be humble.

Slap on a death montage and a lifetime achievement award of some sort to keep it from being a full blown orgy of how awesome everyone must think this specific entertainment medium being celebrated is.

Auburn QB Cam Newton: Soon to be Ruled Ineligible?


I’m a huge admire of Fanhouse college football writer Clay Travis. So much so that I even had him on here as an interview guest. I enjoy his work, especially on the occasions that he discusses the elephant in the room. Actually, he’ll invite the elephant over to the main table and get him to start dancing on the table and making a spectacle for the whole room. And sometimes we need that. Like right now.

Auburn QB Cam Newton is the runaway front-runner for the Heisman. And his undefeated Tigers are in the thick of the national title race. Therefore the NCAA investigation of him could end up  dwarfing the Reggie Bush scandal.

Travis believes he’ll be ruled ineligible and all the AU wins he led them to will be vacated.

Media’s Dire need for Tim Tebow to Succeed


The case of St. Tim Tebow is an interesting one. The media blatantly and obviously want him to succeed professionally. And I can’t think of any other case that comes even remotely close. If he doesn’t make it in the NFL, the mainstream football media will probably collectively commit suicide. I asked an expert on the topic, Clay Travis, if he could recall any other athlete who had the media acting as a de facto PR agent on their behalf.

Big 10 to usher in Megaconference Era


It’s May and we’re talking about college football!

Yey! That never happens. And what’s breaking up the usual May malaise? Big Ten expansion, and the dominoes that will fall all around the country once it goes through.

It’s the only Big Ten topic anyone cares about right now even though the Big Ten Network is not touching it with a ten foot pole. But hey, they’re busy providing ample coverage of Big 10 conference baseball, softball and track, because the four whole people that watch that stuff need to get their fix.
