Can the Wisconsin Badgers pull off the ultimate upset in Pasadena?

Big Ten Championship - Nebraska v Wisconsin

Story-lines run thick in the 99th installment of the Rose Bowl between the #8 Stanford Cardinal and Wisconsin Badgers.

The Badgers are playing in their third straight Rose Bowl and look to hall-of-fame coach Barry Alvarez to improve upon his perfect 3-0 record in Pasasdena.

Stanford enters the game on a three-game streak in BCS Bowls (Fiesta in 2011 and Orange in 2010) as well and is perhaps one of the hottest teams in the country with their last four wins coming against ranked opponents.

Gary Andersen not a great hire, but a good hire for the Wisconsin Badgers

Who is Gary Andersen?

He’s the coach who earlier this season was a missed field goal away from becoming the first non-conference opponent to knock off  the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall in a very long time.

The 48 year-old Andersen will become the Head Coach of the Badgers after coaching at Utah State where he accumulated a 26-24 record over four years.

He’s not the big name or a UW alum many fans were hoping for, but he is a defensive-minded coach that should fit right within the culture at Wisconsin. [Read more…]

Wisconsin needs a win at Penn State to avoid the BIG stumble

Anytime the Wisconsin Badgers lose a couple of games at Camp Randall, it’s probably not a very good year. This year is one of those years and yet they still have a chance to turn it around with a win in next week’s Big Ten Championship.

Before they embark to Indianapolis, they travel to Happy Valley to take on a surprising Penn State team on an emotional day for their senior class. Even though it could be the toughest environment the Badgers play in all year, they need this game to avoid stumbling into the BIG Game.

Wisconsin plays beautiful defense and still falls short to Ohio State

The Wisconsin Badgers held Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller to his worst game of the season, but it wasn’t quite enough with the Buckeyes prevailing 21-14 in overtime at Camp Randall.

It was the first time the Badgers (7-4, 4-3) have played in multiple overtime games since the 2000 season and their second straight loss at home.

A pair of seniors will be pivotal in the Badgers attempt to take down Ohio State

Senior quarterback Curt Phillips will make his first and last start at Camp Randall when the Wisconsin Badgers welcome in the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes for Senior Day this weekend.

Overall, the Badgers have nine seniors taking part in the festivities, but it will be Phillips and star running back Montee Ball who will be expected to carry Wisconsin to victory. [Read more…]

#25 Wisconsin faces a stiff test with the Michigan State defense

Unbeaten in their last 21 home games are the Wisconsin Badgers who feel they are back on track as one of the Big Ten’s elite teams after dominating wins overs Purdue and Minnesota.

What the Boilermakers and Gophers do not have, but the visiting Michigan State Spartans do is a legitimate defense.

If Michigan State had a business card, it would say “DEFENSE” in big bold letters and nothing else because it’s all they really need to keep a game close. But will their defense be enough to pull the ever-so rare upset at Camp Randall?

Wisconsin Badgers go for nine straight against rival Gophers

Every time Wisconsin meets with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Badgers coach Bret Bielema makes sure to give all of his freshman a history lesson on FBS’s oldest rivalry.

Recent history has been kind to the Badgers who have won eight straight in the illustrious battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe.

After opposite starts to the season, the Badgers and Gophers are in pursuit of the same thing and that’s a bowl game. One slight different separates them though; the Badgers are looking for a berth to a significant bowl while the Gophers are merely trying to be bowl-eligible.

Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Wisconsin Badgers: Brutally Honest Preview

The Illinois Fighting Illini and Wisconsin Badgers have a lot in common in 2012 and it’s not a good thing. Most notably is the unexpected and disappointing starts  for both teams. Neither team looked half-decent against non-conference foes and both lost their Big Ten openers.

The Illini’s new head coach Tim Beckman could already be on the hot-seat and the Wisconsin Badgers are without any kind of identity on the offensive side of the ball.

Let the battle of the Big Ten’s Legends Division begin.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. #22 Nebraska Cornhuskers: Brutally Honest Preview

Excitement, mystery and revenge are just a few of the words that can be used to describe the start of the conference season for the Wisconsin Badgers and Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Both teams look to move forward from what was a disappointing non-conference slate from not only their-selves, but the entire Big Ten conference as a whole.

The Badgers are still searching for their offensive identity and the Huskers still have a bad taste in their mouth from the 48-17 drubbing Wisconsin handed them to open the conference season in Madison last year.

Wisconsin Plays Trickery in 59-7 Win over Indiana (Rapid Reaction)

Homecoming turned out to be a sweet experience for the still-undefeated Wisconsin Badgers (6-0) as they steam-rolled the Indiana Hoosiers (1-6) in a 59-7 romp. It wasn’t quite 83 points, but a similar message was instilled with the blowout win.

Heisman front-runner and Stanford QB Andrew Luck should take notice when he sees the trick play Montee Ball and Russell Wilson completed in the second quarter of a game that was never very close.

Badgers LB Chris Borland Knows the Defense is “Ready” for Big Ten Play

Wisconsin Badgers linebacker Chris Borland is one of the undisputed leaders of the seventh ranked defense in the country. The sophomore Borland leads the unit with 35 tackles and five tackles for loss through their first four games.

The defensive unit has been great at keeping points off the board as they rank third in the nation while allowing only 8.5 points per contest. Borland is aware that the Badgers will be tested by the #8 Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big Ten season opener, but he’s pretty sure the defense is ready for the test.

“I think we’re ready, we had a rough start in week one, but since then we’ve worked hard. We have our fundamentals down and we have a good base going in Big Ten play,” said Borland after the team’s 59-10 win over South Dakota.

Wisconsin 59 South Dakota 10: Rapid Reaction

Head Coach Bret Bielema has improved to 24-0 in regular season non-conference games as the #6/#7 Wisconsin Badgers (4-0) dismantled the South Dakota Coyotes (2-2) by the score of 59-10

Wide Receiver Nick Toon had a monster game with seven receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns in front of 78,880 fans at Camp Randall Stadium.

QB Russell Wilson was just as great as he became only the fourth signal caller in UW history to pass for over 300 yards in consecutive games.
