Global BC TV‘s Barry Deley is about the learn just how true “mo’ toonies, mo’ problems” really is. The Vancouver sportscaster/ Canucks reporter just won a local lottery; on the air! This is somewhat of a real life version of that early years The Simpsons episode when Kent Brockman reported himself the Springfield lottery winner.

Deley gets a choice of a $2 million cash or a $2.5 million house (pronounced “hoose” in this video, you’ll love the Canadian accents and jargon in this video after the jump)

As Deley points out, he’ll still make only 20% as much as Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo.

NHL Western Conference Predictions/Previews

This is the third year Ed Cmar has offered predictions as to how the Western Conference will sort out. But unlike how he assessed the predicted outcomes in prior seasons by determining who would be in (the playoffs), who would be out of playoff consideration and who would be on the fringe, he’s modified my predictions by where I believe each team will place, overall.

While this changed method is subject to more error, when it comes to the NHL and its playoffs, your seeding/position doesn’t matter.

With that, here are my predictions (in ascending order, from 1st to 15th):

Lady Gaga Dresses like Canucks Roberto Luongo at MTV VMAs

“Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.” Lady Gaga did the cross-dressing thing tonight at the MTV Video Music Awards, the biggest night of the year (if you’re a 14 year old girl). And in the process she resembled Vancouver Canucks goaltender and NHL superstar Robert Luongo. (courtesy of Puck Daddy, check out their other side-by-side pic as well)

Blackhawks and Canucks Heading Back to Chicago, UNRULY Fans

With a resounding 5-0 win in game five, the Chicago Blackhawks took a game from the Vancouver Canucks in their building and got right back in goaltender Roberto Luongo‘s head. They’ve out-scored the Canucks 12-2 in the last two games, and 17-11 in the series (yet they still face elimination being down 3-2).

Maybe the Chicago fans and their taunts are getting to them? Much was made of Hollywood A-Lister Vince Vaughn taunting Roberto Luongo (see picture above, click for larger view), but apparently there are some meatball Hawks fans out there who are crossing the line of good taste and harassing the Canucks front office.

(Why am I not surprised?)

Blackhawks Look 2010 Style, for 1 Night at Least

patrick sharp luongo

Like the group of very late 20 century American poets, 98 Degrees once said, “Give me just one night, una noche,
I’ll give you the time of your life.”
And for the Chicago Blackhawks, that one night stand was as exciting and as invigorating as possible.

Facing their first elimination game since ’09, they looked like the NHL Stanley Cup Champions of last year, dominating the Vancouver Canucks, and going on a scoring spree that would make Wilt Chamberlain proud. They rode a four goal second period to a 7-2 win, and stayed alive; for one more night at least.

As the scoring barrage ensued, I’m sure many of the Hawks fans (maybe even Vince Vaughn who was in attendance with his daughter again) said to themselves, “hey, save some of that for Thursday in Vancouver.”

NHL Playoff Preview: Blackhawks in for a Canucks Killing?

I am going to be completely honest: I did not see the Blackhawks actually clinching a spot this year. But the Chi-town boys are back in the playoffs, and now that they’re here (despite all the obits being written following the loss to the Red Wings) they are of course the returning Stanley Cup champions.

The first round of playoffs matches them with the Vancouver Canucks, with whom they have an interesting recent rivalry. For the past two years, the Blackhawks have ended it for the Canucks; knocking Vancouver out in six games in the second round both times.

This year, however, things seem to be quite different.
