This is a huge season for Jeff Tedford and his California Golden Bears football program. Last season was the first in 88 years of college football in which they played their home games somewhere other than Memorial Stadium. A year in the San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park was necessary to renovate their home.

We’ll see now if they kept cheapskate hill and if the team itself is worth all the millions of dollars they paid to upgrade the facilities.

Pac-12 Basketball Preview and Predictions

ucla hot cheerleaders

It’s still weird to write “Pac-12” but in the ever changing college sports landscape, the conference expanded with the additions of Colorado and Utah.  Those two schools won’t help the Pac-12 become a stronger conference during the 2011-2012 season, but the league should be slightly more competitive as a whole.

Here are my Pac-12 predictions for the 2011-2012 season.  Click on the school”s name for an in-depth breakdown of each team.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Even though last season was a year of transition, the California Golden Bears still finished with the fourth best record in the Pac-10.  With almost everybody back from a year ago, Cal should make some noise out west.

College Football 77 in 77: #56 California Golden Bears

It’s been kind of a blah time for sports at the University of California-Berkely recently. It’s a college basketball school first, but they haven’t had a Jason Kidd type play-maker in a awhile. The Pac 10 has been down the last few years, so Golden Bears wins on the hardwood ring a little more hollow. When it comes to college football, you’re not seeing any more Aaron Rodgers or Kyle Boller type QBs passing through Sather Gate.

But all is not lost, the Golden Bears get to live in a very pleasant climate, the school’s academic reputation is as prestigious as you’ll find among BcS schools, there’s a nice hippie vibe on campus, there’s weed available everywhere if that’s what you’re into, and there’s hot Asian girls every where you look on campus. And it could be a tough season in Berkley, as they’ll play all their home games at AT&T Park, where the San Francisco Giants. They’ll also have to practice on a campus rugby field as Memorial Stadium gets a renovation.
