Buckeye Fans Lament a Week After Tressel Firing, Program Armageddon

More than a week after the Jim Tressel firing, the disappointment in Columbus caused by the situation has not subsided one bit.

The fall from grace for the former head coach was swift and painful. Only a year ago, the Buckeyes nation was basking in the glow of a Rose Bowl win and whispers of a national title contending team could be heard from coast to coast. The scarlet and gray were returning a load of starters and many in the national media pegged Ohio State to be playing for another shot at a BCS title.

Things didn’t work out that way, thanks to the Wisconsin Badgers, but they did get that SEC monkey off their back with a thrilling (although inherently corrupt) Sugar Bowl win down in New Orleans.

Lampooning Jim Tressel’s Corruption: a Cottage Industry is Born (Pictures)

When you’ve ruled the Big Ten landscape for so long, you make a lot of enemies. When you achieved that place in college football because you repeatedly broke numerous rules along the way, you make many more enemies.

Much has been made of Jim Tressel lying repeatedly to Ohio State compliance officials about what he knows of the NCAA violations committed by his Ohio State Buckeyes football team. It eventually cost him his job, and it should have. He did the crime; and Tressel even lied to cover up chicanery while he was at Youngstown State.

More on that here It’s one thing to commit infractions, another to cover them up, but Tressel also likes to quote bible verse in public and project a holier-than-thou attitude.
