Ohio St.’s Jared Sullinger: NBA “star calls” in college

jared sullinger nba draft

In today’s media world, never overlook the power of the “retweet,” or the “RT.” It’s today’s online journalistic currency because it serves as a cosign statement or endorsement of what you just tweeted.

And I get my highest number of RTs whenever I tweet things like:

“BREAKING NEWS: Jared Sullinger gets away with changing his pivot foot.”

Or

“BREAKING UPDATE: Jared Sullinger to receive numerous favorable calls tonight.”

Or

THIS JUST IN: a questionable call/non-call goes Jared Sullinger’s way.

The fact that these tweets are so popular proves I’ve tapped into a populist sentiment. Ohio State star forward Jared Sullinger gets A LOT of favorable calls, and many people out there agree with me.

Ohio State just too big and strong for Northwestern: 75-73

jared-sullinger-nba-draft

Ohio State came in 33-2 and winners of 13 straight versus Northwestern when nationally ranked. So you had to like the chances of the nation’s #10 team in Evanston. When you saw them make their first six shots and jump out to a 69% to 35% field goal average (nearly double) about halfway through the first half, I’m sure you liked their chances even more.

Give Northwestern (17-12, 7-10) credit though, they did keep fighting, and they fought hard to nearly force overtime in the final seconds.

Preseason All-America Hoops Team Released; Buckeyes Sullinger Only Unanimous Choice

jared sullinger

The Big Ten conference as a whole may take a step backward this college basketball season, but their star power will remain high this hoops season. The AP All-American preseason first team was released a few short hours ago, and the league made a very tremendous impact on that very short list.

Ohio State‘s Jared Sullinger was the only unanimous choice of the 65-member national media panel. The Badgers Jordan Taylor is the only senior.

Harrison Barnes of North Carolina, Terrence Jones of Kentucky and Jeremy Lamb of Connecticut, three sophomores, round out the rest of the team.

Ohio State’s Deshaun Thomas: The Forgotten Star Freshman

deshaun thomas

When it comes to the number one team in the nation, the Ohio State Buckeyes, people usually start by talking about their stud freshman Jared Sullinger, who might just be the best player in the nation. Seniors David Lighty and William Buford should end up on NBA rosters next year, even though Will has taken a big step back this year.

Then there’s that phenomenal freshmen class. After Sullinger, Aaron Craft is making some headlines. But don’t forget about big ten freshman player of the week 11-29-10 Deshaun Thomas, who went off for 15.5 ppg, 68% fg that week.

Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger: Top Player in the Nation?

jared sullinger

If you believe in the Ewing Theory, how a team can somehow get better and much more successful once their best player vacates, look no further that last year’s Big Ten champion, and Big Ten Tournament Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Somehow the additions have outweighed the subtractions.

They lost (with apologies to LL Cool J, “All-World”) swingman Evan Turner, the individual who swept all the national college basketball player of the year awards, yet they’re still the class of the Big Ten and #1 in the nation thus far.

How did this happen? Look at their outstanding freshmen class, which is to blue chip prospects what illegitimate children are to Antonio Cromartie. It’s led by Jared Sullinger, the headliner of this class like Lebron James headlined the Cavaliers for many years.

Sullinger has developed into a front-runner for the national player of the year awards. Right now it’s between him, BYU’s Jimmer Fredette, UConn’s Kemba Walker and Kansas’ Maurice Morris
