Minnesota Wild Sign Zach Parise AND Ryan Suter

 

Happy birthday America!  The Minnesota Wild started the fireworks early on the Fourth of July by announcing matching contracts for free agent forward Zach Parise, and free agent defenseman Ryan Suter.  Both players were clearly the best available at their position in the free agent market, and in the end decided to join forces and come to the State of Hockey.  Each deal is for 13 years, $98 million, which should essentially keep both players in Minnesota for the rest of their careers.  To learn more about both signings, and how this affects the Minnesota Wild going forward, continue after the jump.

Burns, Pick Sent To Sharks For Setoguchi, Prospect, 1st Round Pick

 

The Minnesota Wild swung a blockbuster trade during round one of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, trading All Star defenseman Brent Burns to the San Jose Sharks.  In return for Burns and a second round pick in next year’s draft, the Wild received winger Devin Setoguchi, prospect Charlie Coyle, and the 28th pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.  The Minnesota Wild then drafted center Zack Phillips with the 28th selection.  To find out why the Wild traded Burns, and how the deal affects the roster, find out after the jump.

2011 NHL Stanley Cup Finals

Vancouver Canucks  vs  Boston Bruins

 

With the Memorial Day weekend past, it is officially summer around these parts.  And the best way to celebrate is with the Coolest Game on Earth.  While the rest of the league gets ready for the NHL Draft, the Stanley Cup Finals start Wednesday night in Vancouver as the Canucks try and bring home their first ever Stanley Cup.  Their opponent is the Boston Bruins, an Original Six member of the National Hockey League who has an historic pedigree, but have struggled to win titles in the modern era.  Will the Canucks win their first Cup in their 40 year history and return the hardware to Canada?  Will the Bruins end their 39 year drought and win their sixth title in franchise history?  As the NHL commercials say, “History will be made.”  At the end of this series, a new chapter will be engraved into history.  Get everything you need to get ready for the Stanley Cup Finals, including information on both teams,  match ups to watch for, and predictions, all after the jump.

Caporusso Signs Two Year Contract With Ottawa

 

Michigan Wolverines hockey star Louie Caporusso has signed a two year entry level contract with the Ottawa Senators.  Caporusso, 21, was a third round pick of the Senators in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the 90th overall pick that year.  Caporusso spent four year in Ann Arbor playing for the Wolverines, including a trip to the national title game this past season.

Red Wings Brian Rafalski Expected To Retire

Red Wings Brian Rafalski Expected To Announce Retirement Wednesday

 

The Detroit Red Wings have announced a press conference for 11:00am Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena where it is expected that defenseman Brian Rafalski will announce his retirement from the National Hockey League after eleven seasons.  This was Rafalski’s fourth season in Detroit after previously playing for the New Jersey Devils, and in Sweden and Finland.  The 37 year old, who went undrfated after a college career at Wisconsin, has one year left on his contract.  It is believed that knee and back injuries over the last couple seasons are contributing to the retirement.
