Boston Red Sox Game Rescheduled due to Hurricane Irene, New York Orders Evacuations


Hurricane Irene is shaping up to be the kind of storm that tells us “don’t make me angry, you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” This could be the first real threat to the northeast corridor since Hurricane Gloria in 1985. It’s going to threaten New York City, maybe making land fall as a Category 1; and even reach Boston as a tropical storm with 80 mph winds.

The Boston Red Sox will no longer have a Sunday afternoon game with the Oakland Athletics, moving that contest to Saturday, the team announced in a press release. That game will start at 5 p.m. as part of a split doubleheader, following a first game set to begin at noon.
