Paying a Price for Trading a Superstar

Orlando Magic

There is no denying that Dwight Howard is a superstar and superstars only come around every so often. Teams are rarely willing to trade their superstar unless it’s for another superstar or a group of solid players and draft picks. That being said, I have no words for what took place last night.  [Read more…]

Los Angeles Clippers look to take next step this off-season

blake griffin chris paul

I’d say, “they’re back” but let’s be honest; the Los Angeles Clippers were never truly here to begin with.  For just the fifth time since the franchise made the move across country to the west coast, the Clips made the post-season, even advancing to the semifinals.  The arrival of Chris Paul played a major role in the team stepping out of the shadow of the Lakers.  However, there are still some moves to be made this off-season if the Clippers are going to take the next step of emerging as a legit Western Conference title contender.

NBA Playoffs: Bad Officiating, Stars Getting “Treatment”

NBA Officials

I have had it with NBA officials in the playoffs. The league is softening up to protect stars and I don’t like it one bit. It’s hard to watch a game when there are nearly 50 fouls called per game. The playoffs are about letting defensive players get away with more, not about giving the stars more “star treatment”. I understand that the NBA is a star-driven league. It’s easier to fire a coach than it is to trade a star player. But what I have seen so far has been ridiculous and I have a feeling that it’s only going to get worse.

Blake Griffin

As I turned off my television and closed my eyes, I had an uneasy feeling. Ten minutes later, I sat up in my bed, reached for my phone and clicked on the ESPN app. I went to the NBA homepage and clicked on the “scores” tab. When the page loaded, I couldn’t believe what I saw.

Kendrick Perkins takes issue with Lebron James’ tweets

lebron king

Oklahoma City center Kendrick Perkins isn’t complaining about being dunked on, or even being tweeted about being dunked on. However, LeBron James’ Twitter reaction, which resembled that of a 13 year old, to Blake Griffin’s posterizing Perkins offended the Thunder big man.

But what would you expect from a man who named his Twitter account “King James?” In his defense, his Twitter background is tastefully dedicated to his fans, not himself.

There was a lot of reaction on Twitter to Griffin dunking on Perkins, including James.

L.A. Clippers “Lob City” Ascension Comes Slowly

clippers-dancers

The Los Angeles Clippers will always be defined as the second team in the nation’s second largest market. They share a home (Staples Center) with their NBA brethren Lakers and the Kings of the NHL.

Take a look at the banners and retired numbers displayed in the upper reaches of Staples: Lots of Lakers and Kings stuff, no Clippers stuff. Or go through the statue plaza at the main entrance. There are monuments to Laker legends Magic JOhnson, Chick Hearn, and Jerry West. The Kings have Wayne Gretzky in bronze; right by him is boxer Oscar de la Hoya.

The Clippers have……no one. That’s why you have to remember change comes slowly. With Chris Paul and Blake Griffin LAC has the best inside-outside combination in the game. But they also have a rough history to overcome.
