Green Bay Packers running game in shambles in 24-15 win over Jaguars

Despite giving the Jacksonville Jaguars multiple opportunities to compete, the Green Bay Packers held on for a 24-15 win in a game where it could be argued the Jaguars looked like the better team.

Blaine Gabbert outplayed Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ (5-3) run-game was non-existent against a Jaguars (1-6) team who’s one of the league’s worst at defending the run.

A win is a win, but it leaves you wondering if the Jaguars’ moral victory is slightly better than the Packers’ real victory.

Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck showing promise entering third game against Jacksonville Jaguars

Andrew Luck was billed as the most NFL-ready quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning — some even said John Elway.

It seems fitting, then, that the 23-year-old rookie was drafted first overall by the Indianapolis Colts, the franchise that drafted both Manning and Elway (the latter forced a trade from the franchise when it was in Baltimore) with the top pick.

While the expectations of Luck have been enormous, he has shown promise in his first two starts as the Colts’ quarterback. He’ll look to build on that promise at 1 p.m. today as the Colts (1-1) play host to their division rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Chicago Bears Season Outlook: 2nd Quarter

Maurice Jones-Drew

Can MJD be the undoing of the Chicago Bear’s entire season?

According to my own sound reasoning, the Bears will either be 3-1 or 2-2 heading into the 2nd quarter of the 2012 NFL season. All things considered, 2-2 isn’t exactly reason for panic.

Luckily for the Bears, sandwiched between games 5 thru 8 is their bye week in week 6. And the next quartet of opponents appears to be a less daunting bunch… on paper.

But the Jaguars, Lions, Panthers and Titans will all be looking to show the Bears why the game isn’t played on paper.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Rankings: QB/RB

It’s the second week of bye weeks, but this one likely hurts fantasy owners more than last week. The likes of Chris Johnson, Ryan Mathews and Philip Rivers will all be on your fantasy bench this week, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of quality options. There are a few runners who will impress this week and are still available on waiver wires, and a couple passers who you should keep your eye on. In today’s rankings, we’ll break down the top fantasy football quarterbacks and running backs.

Jaguars vs. Panthers is Blaine Gabbert vs. Cam Newton

auburn_cam_newton

When the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars do battle this NFL Sunday, it’ll be a clash between #1 overall draft pick in Cam Newton and the #10 overall pick. That’s right Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio named Blaine Gabbert the team’s starting quarterback for week 3.

Del Rio had to do something as Luke McCown threw four interceptions and finished with a 1.8 passer rating in a blowout loss to the Jets. Yes McCown was just that ATROCIOUS.

NFL Preseason Week One: Biggest Winners and Losers

The first week of the preseason produced many surprising standouts on some teams and left much to be desired for others. Some winning teams emerged along with players who experienced real personal wins through their outstanding performances. Other teams bombed badly with players expected to do much better flopping and fumbling their first chances to impress fans on the public stage this year.

Can Blaine Gabbert Beat out David Garrard for Jacksonville Jaguars QB Job?

jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars had been talking about trying to pick up a quarterback in the 2011 NFL Draft, as someone who could backup current quarterback David Garrard, and possibly be developed into a future franchise quarterback. However, most were taken by surprise when the Jaguars traded their 2011 second round pick, as well as the 16th overall pick with the Washington Redskins, in order to obtain the 10th pick overall they needed to ensure they would get their hands on Blaine Gabbert.

Gabbert, a quarterback out of the fast paced, spread Missouri offense, had quickly risen up in terms of draft stock in the weeks leading up to the draft, but do fans and team ownership really plan on there being a quarterback controversy in Jacksonville this year? The short answer is no – barring any significant injury to Garrard, or Garrard’s seriously tanking – he will not be competing for the starting quarterback position in Jacksonville this season.

2011 NFL Mock Draft 4-12

Carolina Panthers Draft Is Key Indicator of NFL Lockout

The NFL Lockout doesn’t have an end in sight.

The players are prepping for their individual anti-trust lawsuits versus the league, the league is too busy preparing for the annual player selection meeting next month.

However, as news of certain teams’ draft strategies are leaked in the media, those outside the private meetings of the NFL Owners can have an idea of how long the conflict might last. Those strategies could, in fact, be the indicator to let the media and public know if the owners themselves think this lockout is going to cause part or all of the 2011 season to be lost.
